ABOUT ME

I am a whimsical young womyn who lives by a vast midwestern lake and dreams of the strange & wonderful things that lie beneath it. I spend my time delving into Belly Dancing, Herbalism & Magic, Crafting, X-changing beautiful Mail, Gardening, Birdwatching, volunteering at a radical social center, & sipping coffee/tea with a good book to read. I have a dorky fascination with the Mystical & Fantastical, & like to think that the world is full of Secrets.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In past houses where I've lived, I've had loads of traveling kids sleep on the couch/living room (random bike tourers, rail riders, touring bands, traveling punx, hitchhikers, etc.) before I'd ever heard of CS. But, I decided to give this network a whirl when I went on a cross-country travel trip years ago, and was stoked on all of the places I got to stay. Not very much CS action in quite a while tho.

I really adore the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke, Gwendolyn MacEwen, & Pablo Neruda. Some favorite novels include: Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Pigs in Heaven, The Secret Life of Bees, Never Cry Wolf, Off the Map, Silent Spring, Watership Down, Cannery Row, When God was a woman, the Abhorsen Trilogy, When Jesus came the Corn Mothers went away, & RubyFruit Jungle.
My first love was Punk Rock- (Crass, X-Ray Spex, Buzzcocks, The Distillers, Minor Threat, Op Ivy, Rosa, Madeline Adams, No Ca$h, Mischief Brew, etc.). But I also enjoy quiet &/or poppier shtuff such as Best Coast, Two Gallants, M.I.A. The Postal Service, Robyn, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, Mumford & Sons, and Cake Bake Betty.

I once spent half an hour reviving a weakened Honey Bee by hand-feeding it drops of sugar water. When it was satiated, it carefully cleaned each of it's tiny legs, did an intricate bee dance and flew out the window. I think that life is mostly made up of these small specific details that could be banal & empty, and the real trick of it is to birth them into moments of beauty and meaning.

I can show you some of the local plants that are good for wild foraging, & we could make salves, infused oils, maybe even tinctures if I have materials on hand...
Also, I can introduce you to the postal exchange community & show you resources to find penpals or folx for just swapping handmade Mail Art. I could also teach the basics behind using FAM (Fertility Awareness Method) as a reliable form of alternative and/or supplemental birth control.
I would be interested in sharing vegetarian/vegan recipes, do you have a favorite? Also, I'd love to learn more about plant identification if anyone happens to a good foothold in botany. :)
