ABOUT ME

We're in our early thirties and travelling through the US, Europe and the UK after volunteering in North America for a marine conservation organization.

We're happy about being vegan and have taken a year off our work to travel, volunteer and learn as much as we can about the environment, and human rights and animal rights issues. We want to make these things a bigger part of our lives when we return home. Any inspiration will be appreciated!

PHILOSOPHY

To be informed, positive, compassionate and active global citizens. We believe in doing as much good for our companions on the planet and to the incredible life support system of our earth as possible. And in contributing in whatever ways we can, constantly learning, enjoying company of friends and enjoying each day.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We first heard about CS while traveling in Mongolia last year with a lovely couple who were couch surfing/hospitality clubbing (we're visiting them soon in France!). Then we had a great experience being hosted by a couch surfer in Kansas City recently through sheer coincidence and generosity. We realized that couch surfing is a great way to meet people with a similar outlook on life.

Intereses

Humans and human rights, animals and animal rights, sustainability, sustainable vegan food (is ice cream sustainable?) and ideas about all of them. Walking, cycling, kayaking, marital arts - anything active that we can do outside! I love contempary art, comedy, things innovative or whimsical.

Fuel for the fire! Things that make us think or laugh.

Books: Haruki Murakami. Jared Diamond. Peter Singer's writing. The World Without Us.

TV: The Mighty Boosh. The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.

Movies: Documentaries and happy endings.

Music: Sky listens to whatever is new and especially rock. I love anything political or whimsical, local bands, nineties rock, camp pop, folk (harmonies and strings especially), new country, old country and lots of hidden embarrassments. Billy Bragg will never be supplanted from my heart.

Algo increíble que he hecho

We recently sailed with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to the ice floes off Canada to document the annual hunt of baby harp seals. It was an amazing journey to a beautiful environment, and heartbreaking to witness the deaths of the little seals. Our campaign was cut short when we were boarded (outside Canadian waters - illegally?) by a SWAT team working for the Department of Fisheries then later released without charge.
