Ciao, my name is Marianna. I grew up in the countryside around the city of Bologna (yes, "Boloni") and I have been living in Los Angeles for 10 years. I moved here without speaking much English and, after graduating from Occidental College with a major in English and Creative Writing, I went on to UCLA to pursue a Ph.D. in Italian Literature and Cinema. At the moment I am a T.A. and a graduate student in the Italian Department at UCLA. The walls of my house are made of books and my towels and napkins are pages from "Pinocchio" and the"Decameron." Up until the end of September 2016 I lived with the love of my life: my 13 year old Springer Spaniel, Max, who has left this planet to go play with rainbow balls in heaven. When I am not on my books, I enjoy meditation, yoga, walking, and hiking but also eating yummy delicacies. I can read and write upside down and I can hand make pasta and pizza! I have been referred to as "Chamelion" for my ability to adapt and blend into different situations (very formal to very laid back, I tend to prefer the latter ones!). I am tidy( I really am) and quiet. I can enjoy a glass or wine or a beer during a nice meal but nothing more. I am not a party girl nor do I enjoy loud and crazy environments. Oh, I do love laughing and chat, I have to say that. I have joined couchsurfing for cultural purposes only so I would really appreciate if you refrained from sending "inappropriate" requests! :)

I usually listen to ambient music and I adore Danny Elfman.
Movies...Neorealist Italian movies, my favorite being De Sica's Ladri di biciclette.
I am a fan of Italian screenwriter Tonino Guerra and the movies he wrote with Michelangelo Antonioni (L'avventura, La notte, L'eclisse, and Deserto Rosso).
Of course, Fellini's Amarcord is on my list.
Oh, I am a sucker for animation. "Up" makes me tear up every time.

I have rescued 5 dogs in 4 different occasions in the past 4 years. The one who made me actually cry like a baby was the encounter with Blueberry Muffin, a black chow mix whom I picked up on my way to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena 4 years ago. BBM had been gone for the whole night and walked for miles all by himself. When I found him he was walking on the sidewalk on a busy street right next to the freeway in Pasadena. Nobody would stop, so I turned my Mini around and got him. He was kinda of big, chubby, and fluffy but after a few attempts I was finally able to lift him up and put him in my car. I then took the pup to the Humane Society. While I was waiting in the parking lot for someone to open the gate, suddenly his daddy pulled into the parking lot. When he saw me with BBM he rushed out of the car yelling "You got my muffin!".
