About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel and find ways to make this world a better place for all but especially the poor.

ABOUT ME

Over 4 years ago we sent my last child off to college so I am enjoying an empty nest with my wife of 38 years. Have 4 wonderful kids doing what they love and making me proud. I enjoy people and ideas and am always learning more by reading, talking and working with others. When I travel I love to meet new people and the best times happen when you pick up hitch-hikers because you can and change your destination to where they are going. It is the people, not the places that stay with me as friends after I have moved on.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have enjoyed meeting local people over coffee and other events. I am spontaneous and have been known to take visitors to football games in Buffalo and Niagara Falls because it is close enough. I have enjoyed hosting and look forward to CS when I travel in the future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The first time I returned to New Mexico I was in graduate school and hadn't been back since I moved away as a young child. I was at a conference in Aspen, CO and when I was done got on a bus to Albequerque. I had had a mother's helper that I hoped to track down who was a Pueblo Indian. Once in Albequerque the first person I met was from a Pueblo the next Pueblo over from the one I planned to visit, looking for my nany. He invited me to sleep on his floor if I needed a place to stay. I enjoyed 3 nights on his floor and one night under the stars on a picnic table nearby since the stars were amazing. My nany was in her 90's and couch surfing in Az at the time so I didn't meet her again since she died before I could return but I made a new friend and was adopted by his mother. When I return I just show up, as often visiting his mother as my firend since this CS experience started before the Internet and even the phone is a bit unused. It is great to be able to met people and get to the point when you don't even need to call and they are always happy to see you. Just thinking about it, I realize it is time to return to New Mexico for a visit. The rug on their floor is soft enough for me any time.
