Hi my name is Mike Hartley. Spent the majority of my life living in Southern California, either Los Angeles or San Diego when I was in school. Currently traveling after quitting my job back in December after going to Thailand. Planning on moving to Australia in July. Been through Europe recently and I will be going to Africa before Australia. I love exploring new places, trying new foods, and making new friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far with Couchsurfing I have only been to meetups, one in Stockholm and now a few in Los Angeles. Didn't learn about it until January 2015. I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about there culture. Locals always know best. I am currently unable to host because I have no home to host anyone. Currently staying either with friends or my parents. Definitely would love to show people around LA while I am here and when I have a place to live again definitely willing to host.

Interests

I enjoy Sports, especially Basketball. Mostly just watching these days I have had a few knee injuries. I love exploring cities and trying new foods/things. I love the beach despite my fair skin and how easily I get sunburned haha. Recently I have been getting back into Yoga. Anything social with my friends old and new I enjoy. Karaoke, game nights, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I used to be huge into the Heavy Metal scene but lately I have been more into dance music and alternative. Right now my favorite artists are Calvin Harris, Eminem, David Guetta, Sia, and Lupe Fiasco. Favorite movies, anything Marvel right now is great. Mostly prefer Action and Comedy movies, but I like most everything. Favorite books to read for pleasure are usually fantasy books, like Lord of the Rings. Favorite author of all time is Terry Brooks. For learning purposes I like to read motivational books, big into any books on Stoicism.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed the Great Wall in the winter in shorts and sandals because the rest of my clothes were on the plane(I was on a layover).

Teach, Learn, Share

I have lived in Los Angeles for every year except 2 in college down in San Diego. I know tons of places to go although my expertise lies near the beach areas. I also have recommendations for San Diego and Las Vegas as well as I have been to both places a ton. I will happily give any advice and if I am free and you are looking for company I will tag along as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very relaxed and low maintenance. I am a firm believer that less is more so on all my trips I travel quite light. If you are willing to let me sleep on your couch that is really all I need. I believe in common courtesy and appreciation so if I am staying with you expect a meal to be bought for you or a bottle of wine, or something along those lines. Thank you for your consideration.
