About Me

Travelling and meeting people takes you places school never could, so I guess you could say I'm on here for a different type of education. I'm currently working in Nairobi, and I've lived and worked as a teacher in Canada and Jordan.

I'm pretty laid back and go with the flow, and I really enjoyed hosting surfers in Jordan and want to give it another go here in Nairobi.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've had great experiences travelling, but I've had way better ones when I meet people on the way. I've had great CS experiences in Canada and Japan, and a very interesting one in India (ok, I guess it was my first CS scam, but t was interesting nonetheless).

In essence I want to keep giving back to the community that has given me so much.

Interests

- Teaching & Education
- History (especially of India and East Asia)
- Travelling (why else would I be here?)
-Cycle Touring (gearing up for another trip soon!)
- Hiking
- Comics and Graphic Novels (not too big on superhero comics, but I love the genre as a whole)
- Comedy (Especially stand-up, Richard Pryor is gold)
- Hockey (I am Canadian)
- Making great jokes (I suppose that's debatable)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like a little bit of everything, some favourites are Jeff Buckley, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Eagles, Childish Gambino, and too many more to mention. Currently listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar and old 80s tunes.

Movies: Some of my favourites are District 9, No Country for Old Men, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Secret in Their Eyes, Lagaan, Adrift in Tokyo, I Saw the Devil, Breakfast Club...there's too many to list!

Books: All things graphic novels. Not so much into superhero comics though. Some favourites are Blankets, Habibi, Asterios Polyp, Daytripper, Black Hole, The Cellist of Sarajevo, In a Strange Room, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and too many history books to list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going 1100km on a bicycle, camping each night, from Revelstoke, Canada to Portland, OR, USA.

Moving from Canada to live in Amman and teach!

Building a school in the community of Marcos Laines in Nicaragua

Teach, Learn, Share

Above all else, I love to share stories from travelling or any other mindful experience! This is the true reward of meeting people and experiencing the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

In one word, I think I can share an experience. I'm a go-with-the-flow type of guy and am pretty adaptable to any situation. Because of that I love getting to met new people and not just share, but create stories with them. At the end of every trip I want to come back home to share stories and experiences with people and tell my friends and family about all the incredible people I met. I'd love getting to connect with hosts and begin to write an unforgettable story together.

Practically of course I realize that hosts are giving their time and space for me, so reciprocating that effort for hosts is always important! Feel free to send me a message to get to know me better, I'd love to connect.
