About Me

Hey there!
I'm Michael, but people call me Michi. I come from a small village in North Western Austria, but since October 15th I'm living in Quito, Ecuador.

I studied Social and Cultural Anthropology in Vienna and have worked in an organisation for intercultural exchange for 3 years. Since October 2025 I'm studying a master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies.

I wouldn't be here if I wouldn't love travelling and intercultural exchange. I'm lucky to have travelled a lot and lived in two other countries. With time I've understood that my favourite way to travel is visiting friends. And that if you go where you have no friends, there's couchsurfing.

I may spontaneously be out of town every now and then, but when I'm here feel free to reach out if you want to crash on my couch or just hang out with somebody that knows the city (and, I would say, pretty well!).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I don't usually travel to see places anymore, I travel to see people. No matter if it's friends or strangers.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I believe my algorithm is still confused by the strange mix of genres I listen to. Have you ever heard about Greek hip hop? Bavarian salsa?

Movies: I have a flat rate cinema ticket. Let's go watch a movie!

Books: Currently reading Isabel Allende.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leave my continent with 18 and live one year in a completely different culture, far from home. Climb a 5000 meters high mountain in Mexico.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach my language, and get lost in emotionally explaining how I speak German but it's actually not really German but somehow yes but really no.

I love music, I play the violin and have been learning to play the guitar. Let's sing something! Or let's go to a Karaoke or to dance!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, languages, photos (I can take you a nice photo if I'm traveling with my camera), Austrian cooking.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vatican City State
