I live on Brighton Beach in 2-bedroom apartment , half a block from Ocean on my right and Sabway station on my left B or Q trains . It takes about 35min to get to 34th Street by B-train and 50 min by Q-train.
Russian neighborhood is a busy food market street , a lot of cooked, prepared food you can take out ( buffet style, priced by weight ). You'll never be hungry here on Brighton Beach - homemade hot food or salads are in EVERY food store :)
