When I was in my early 20s I had the opportunity to work as a musician on cruise ships, and to work with people from all over the world, Latin America, Southeast Asia, India, China, South Africa, and eastern Europe. These were some of the warmest, most welcoming people I ever met. For three years I lived with them, ate my meals with them, had adventures with them, played music with them, and talked with them about all manner of life, family, and culture. The experience changed my life and opened me up to the world.
