ABOUT ME

My main love is words and using them to write. Since I also have a great interest in current events and what's happening in the world around me, my work as a newspaper reporter for three years was especially rewarding. I also love to finish and refinish furniture. I did that for about 15 years, and started a business that lasted 3.5 years doing that too. It is a fine feeling to take a worn out piece of furniture and transform it into a furnishing of taste and true decorative value. I have a great interest in history...ancient Roman history...American history, especially the Civil War period...Catholic Christian spirituality...fiction...John Grisham is a favorite of mine. I'm taking my time about it, but creating a book of poetry which will be self-published when completed. I take Spanish lessons and will find time in the not too distant future to include French as well. My goal is to speak both languages fluently.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe man was created by God in the image of God and that our purpose on earth is to know Him, love Him and serve Him.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't participate now. I'm just starting out but I'm sure I'll find ways to participate as I become a more experienced Couch Surfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It wasn't through the CouchSurfing organization but in 1983 I let two French travelers stay at my place in San Francisco for about two weeks. It was a fun, interesting experience but I wish I still had my 125 year old American silver dollar.

Interessen

Looking at birds with binoculars, gardening, exercise, reading Newsweek magazine, going to Sunday mass, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for homeless people through St. Vincent de Paul Society. Eating healthy food. Dancing. Bettering communication skills, for example, how to become a better listener.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I'm a fan of science fiction movies, westerns, war movies, any type of movie about the Jews in Europe in World War II-- I will be there. Any type of movie that portrays what happened in the Americas as a result of 'manifest destiny'. I enjoy romantic movies. Comedies. And documentaries. I like a range of music that dips into the classical up to rock and roll and present day singers like Jennifer Lopez. I don't keep up with the latest trends in music. Books on recent American history are of interest to me. I like a good crime mystery. I've enjoyed reading books about Jesus Christ and church history. I've enjoyed reading books on psychology.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I lived in the houseboat community in Sausalito, CA for about two years in the early 1970s. I lived in a working, 25 foot cabin cruiser that I anchored out in Richardson Bay, amongst the other houseboats that sheltered community members at the time.
