About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am moving to Brazil in January with my dog and am dying to experience this country and culture at last. Currently exploring but eventually trying to find a place to live longer term. I have a remote job in headhunting and do writing on the side.

ABOUT ME

I am from new york city, went to college in chicago, and have lived in hostels in Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Taiwan. I am a music lover, bookworm, and

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This is my first couchsurfing experience.

Interests

im a goofy person but also like talking about ideas a little too much. i learned portuguese in part as an exercise in restraining the analytical with a more concise language , because the Brazilians seem to have a wisdom that transcends concepts like music or theology attempt to. they way they speak and live affects what they say perhaps more than in a germanic language, and if i dont already sound like a freak to you we'll probably get along

Music, Movies, and Books

Where to begin...so many things and phases but currently rediscovering the music of Brazil, Southeastern Bossa Nova and Northeastern everything. I used to play the cello and casually play guitar, and can talk longer than you want to hear about Charlie Kaufman, the Shining, but among the older ones Paper Moon and Heaven can Wait are two of my favorites

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe not amazing but last summer I got 3000 people to show up every week to a Clubhouse room to listen to me talk about Nietzsche and the Sopranos

Teach, Learn, Share

i have been playing the guitar casually for some 15 years, and i'm certainly not "good" by any real standard but i'm good at getting complete beginners playing and comfortable with the basics quickly, which i've done for a few friends. i've also taught English, chess, financial literacy, and Buddhist philosophy--the subject of my master's and doctorate I never ended up doing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you have any interest religion or a philosophy, movies, history, or anything really related to ideas I promise to keep you entertained--which is probably why I fit in so poorly with the people who teach them for a living. I've had lots of interesting experiences and love meeting new people. I will be a fun guest in your home!

Countries I’ve Visited
