ABOUT ME

A little Travelling Note:

Friends I will no be in Troyes during the summer months as I will be travelling Europe with my sister. First the Camino Santiago, then an ecumenical monastery in France and finally a 3-week train trip. See you in the Fall. Michael

Blah bike, blah drink tea, blah more bike, blah chill in cafe, blah bike, blah eat cheese or chocolate, blah bike ... blah teach a little english, blah be late for appointment/work/everything ... woot! couchsurfing is fun!!!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Biking is the best way in the world to travel from place to place! Good for the environment, good for you health and the best way to really see the countryside.

Couch surfing is the way in the world to travel too! You get to meet wonderful people. They share with you their home and community, which has greatly enriched my travels. You share stories, talk about you favourite trips and you will definitely learn something new.

Honestly, what is not to love. The more I participate, the fun I have.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have now couchsurfered in Switzerland and France. I've had really great hosts and in many different places: Lyon Avignon, Nîmes, Béziers, Carcasonne and Toulouse, Nice, Lausanne, Lucerne, Bellinzona, Lugano. However, I have to pay homage to my very first host.

I visited the Strasbourg Christmas markets and it was a totally fabulous and awesome experience. My host was very welcoming, a great cook, and he gave great advice about what to see but more importantly where to eat. He challenged me to be a more active couch surfer and for that I will be forever grateful.

I have only had the opportunity to host twice, which is unfortunate but Tino and his hitchhiking friends were tons of fun and a Dutch couple drop by the week I was moving apartments (that was a little crazy).

I love when friends and strangers to crash my couch and I love hosting people so please drop by. The more the merrier.

I love to eat. It is something that I've learned from French people. As they say in France, Americans eat to live, but the French live to eat. I also enjoy drinking: mostly tea, of course with good conversation, but I could never refuse a 2005 Bordeaux, again with converstaion.

Cycling is my sport of preference but being a good Canadian I love hockey of course. I do a bit of swimming (was a lifeguard for many summers) and tennis. And well I could never turn down a football (soccer) game.

I love to travel, mostly by bike, but if not by train. I enjoy getting lost because I get to discover unexpected places. I also enjoy sleeping-in the day after a long bike ride.

I love being outside. Camping in the forest is the best way to sleep. Is camping an interest?

Movies ... well that entirely depends on my mood. I can enjoy the serious though provoking kind but sometimes you just need a garbage comedy for fun.

Music ... I listen to mostly classical as I grew up playing the violin and piano, but anything that can be classified as chills would interest me. In particular jazz and blues of late.

Books ... I'll read pretty much anything but my preference is non-fiction. I'm a news addict, the Guardian and Le Monde being my favourites as of late, and I've started reading a lot of theological books particularly by Bonhoffer.
