About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I've been learning to pace, to live life with speed and grace.

ABOUT ME

"Michael is one of those people who can get everyone around him to see the beauty in the world, because he is enthusiastic about the things in life that most of us just don't take the time to notice. He has some kind of light that radiates from within himself that helps others find their way to adventure"- my best friend

PHILOSOPHY

"Hello babies, welcome to earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule I know of babies, God damn it, you've got to be kind." Kurt Vonnegut

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never done couch surfing through this community and website before, but I have done it many times through visiting existing friends. Some of the best times of my life have happened through those visits.

Interests

Music is the thing that makes everything else revolve for me. I play my guitar with a cello bow and also a theremin. ADVENTURE! I love exploring the world and finding excitement in places that were never expected. Kurt Vonnegut novels have taught me many lessons on how to be a good human being.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Sigur Ros, Brand New, Manchester Orchestra. Movies: Into the Wild, Donnie Darko, Inception, American Beauty. Books: 1984, anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Lord of the Rings.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I saw Sigur Ros live in Detroit it changed everything. I didn't speak for two days because I was stunned so deeply with awe. For months on end after that concert everything in the world seemed endlessly beautiful.

Another moment of awe was when I went white water rafting through the Grand Canyon with my mom and sister. It seemed like an entirely different world than anything I had ever seen.

Teach, Learn, Share

A chorus to a song I wrote sums up what I think about learning and teaching.

"I've been learning to pace, to live life with speed and grace. Slow enough to soak it in, sights and sounds all around. Fast enough to not rust over, blend the two, young and older. Breath excitement like oxygen, let it grow, out and within. "
