About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel, but find that a lot of the world is becoming "touristified", where travel can lose its spontaneity. The richness of travel lies as much with the people you meet as the places you visit. Couchsurfing is a great way to connect with those people.

Interests

I'm academically minded. I'm big into science and even produce a college radio science show. I'm an avid reader across the spectrum of non-fiction and fiction, from literature to sci-fi and even pulp.

I'm an Irish musician, interested in folk music, rock, EDM and a small bit of classical.

I'm an outdoor enthusiast. I spent a summer kayaking in California, and spent most of college running whitewater, alternating day to day between grade 4 rapids and physics experiments. Coming from one of the most beautiful walking regions in Europe, I hike regularly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: folk music, rock, EDM and a small bit of classical.

Movies: I'm big into films by the Coen brothers, Wes Anderson and Stanley Kubrick.

Books: I've read everything by Douglas Adams, I spent my teen years reading Terry Pratchett. I'm currently getting into Neil Gaiman. I adore Flann O'Brien's work. I read a lot of non-fiction too. All this is peppered with some hardcore literature, such as Camus, Nabokov, Dumas, and the remains of unfinished tomes like Ulysses and Infinite Jest.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In October last year I walked the Camino de Santiago, from Sahagún in central Spain to Santiago de Compostella in Galicia, then on to Finisterre, what the classical world thought was the end of the world. It was an amazing experience where I made friends for life. I have never returned home so chilled after an adventure.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm an Irish musician, and I travel often to play. I'm an avid cook, and having spent half my life on a farm, I'm mad about food.

Naturally I share the Irish penchant for storytelling and love a good conversation, especially over a beer or a glass of wine.
