About Me

CURRENT MISSION

i'm off to the road again to see some friends whose company i miss, spend some time with my family, meet some new people, and maybe see some places i've never seen before.

ABOUT ME

aside from working as a social worker, i also make music, take pictures, do organizing work with different collectives, ride bikes, skateboard, make lots of vegan food, and read. a lot.

PHILOSOPHY

this life is all we have so let's do our best to make the most of it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i like doing things with other people. making food, cleaning up, helping out with projects, plotting out bike rides and hikes. i like to facilitate the creation of different kinds of adventures.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

never couchsurfed in this way, but i have been on many road trips and other forms of travelling where i've been able to lay my head in back yard tents and living room floors. i am good about getting out of the house and consider myself to be considerate in terms of treading lightly when need be.

Interests

learning new things about myself and about the world, camping, stargazing, seeing live music and making live music, trying to work for social justice in the world in my own person-sized way, writing long letters to my friends, cooking food for people, and long, aimless walks through all different sorts of environments.

Music, Movies, and Books

authors like nabokov, david foster wallace, dostoevsky, bell hooks, paulo freire, salinger, the alt-lit thing, every once in awhile poetry.

music like the punk stuff, the folk stuff, the black metal stuff, the old stuff, the really old stuff, and whatever is being made when i'm in the room.

don't watch a whole lot of movies but i really like most of the stuff from studio ghibli. recently i've liked upstream color, samsara, manufactured landscapes, looper, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

in 2012 i traveled to guadalajara with some friends from oakland to participate in an ongoing art project we helped create called oaklajara. we slept on rooftops and met up with old friends who introduced us to new friends who helped us put on radio shows and make art from things we pulled out of the dump and practice our spanish. the trip culminated in a free event we put on that featured 3 local bands, 4 local dj's, 3 dj's from oakland, an interactive art wall, and all the artwork that we made together. the event took place on the rooftop of a warehouse in guadalajara. the next morning, watching the sunrise together with all the folks who made the event possible, is something i'll never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

i have been playing music for a long time and love to teach. guitars are fun, as are saxophones, drums, and voices. i've been cooking for years and have mastered some bomb vegan recipes that i like to share and make with people. i like to practice spanish. i can help get bicycles up and running without too much trouble. i'd like to learn more about farming, construction, emergency medical response techniques, car/vehicle maintenance & repair, trail hiking, etc.
