ABOUT ME

We met in rural China in 2002 and were married in Hong Kong in 2005. Since 2006, we've been living in New York.

We quit our jobs and co-founded at a healthcare technology startup (http://aqua.io) in 2013 and now try to travel while we work on keeping it going. This new pattern of work-travel has been alternatively overwhelming and just plain amazing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We haven't had spare room to host people in for a while and no longer have the luxury of surfing, since we typically need a quiet apartment to work from in the mornings when we travel (so that our business doesn't sink!).

Still, couchsurfing has become a part of the way we experience new places and we are hoping to continue to be a part of the community by making friends with other couchsurfers when we travel!

Interests

History, languages, philosophy, indie music, film (particularly East Asian ones), card games, technology, politics, and walking just about everywhere it's feasible to walk to.

Music, Movies, and Books

Actually, for a couple, we have very, very different tastes in music, movies, and books. Some things that we both happen to like:

* Novels by Haruki Murakami, Milan Kundera and Gabriel Garcia Marquez
* Chinese films of the 80s and 90s, as well as Japanese movies, Hitchcock films, and the best of the American semi-independent filmmakers (Coen Brothers, Nolan, Anderson, Baumback, etc.)
* Ivy considers Michael's music to be "noisy" and Michael usually dismisses Ivy's music as candy-coated sentimentality. The only things we both seem to enjoy are Faye Wong, Morrissey, Ryuichi Sakaomoto, and LCD Soundsystem

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just about every sunrise we've ever seen left us awestruck. (Awestruck, mostly, because we are rarely awake and outdoors together that early.)

We can teach Mandarin and Cantonese. (Also, Ruby or JavaScript, if you like programming.)
