About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to make the world a better place O:)

ABOUT ME

My name is Michelle and I am living in Jakarta, Indonesia where I study Water conflict Management. I facilitate my research by practicing English with citizens; win-win situation - get paid to talk with and learn from people! :)

PHILOSOPHY

Leading by example! My comfort zone will only grow by trying uncomfortable things and then realizing - hey that wasn't such a big deal!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate with Couch Surfing most often by educating others about the mission. A friend of my traveled throughout Europe last summer with the help of CS by my suggestion. People helping people! ... Also, Jakarta has a really big CS community - I have met some great friends through this site! <3 There is always something going on! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have officially only couch surfed through this site once, in 2007... after that time, CS'ers stayed with my sister and I while living in Boston, MA - but presently, my CS experience has been meeting up with CS locals.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES:: As a Sociologist, I am kind of a party-pooper lol! I watch a movie and the dominant messages are so present to me! I love to hate Twilight.

MUSIC:: My family was not into music when I was growing up so almost everything I hear now is *new* to me. I cannot promise I will love everything but I appreciate other people's favorites and suggestions of new styles. Anything, but a radio commercial ;)

BOOKS:: I have been reading a lot more lately and feel good! I suggest, "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle, the "Little Book of Conflict Transformation" by John Paul Lederach and I also wish to recommend "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows" by Dr. Melanie Joy, my very inspiring, former lecturer. Her read is an excellent window into the world we should all be more aware of.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing that I have done was when I picked up and left for Philadelphia without knowing where/what would happen. I learned I could survive without having a "formal" plan. Since then I have traveled as much as possible and despite some bumps, I have been so fortunate.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am your teacher and you are my student - you are my teacher and I am your student... I wish to learn more about you and your journey as a way to pursue my own.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Gambia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Senegal, Singapore, United States
