My girlfriend Suzanne and I are leaving for a trip in Europe on June 21st. We got a one way ticket to Amsterdam where our journey will start. We didn't book a return ticket because we wanted to leave the opportunities open because we don't know what country we will be visiting next after Nederland and from where we will be returning home.
I retired one year ago and Suzanne will be prior to our departure from Montreal, French is my first language but I am confortable speeking english as I’ve worked for many years in an english speeking environment. As a copywriter for some big corporations, I’ve enjoyed discovering other people’s interest. Over the years, I’ve realized that happy people also make interesting stories.
I have a few sentences hooked on a wall at home that summarize part of my philosophy. One of them is "Withour fear, we have no need for power". Another says « Cela aussi passera », meening "that too will pass" refering to the impermanence of time.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I’ve heard so many nice comments from my colleague Caroline Biron about the Couchsurfing community that I’ve decide to experience a new way of discovering hidden parts of different regions that escape to most of the touristic circuits and meeting with people who spent part of their life in those areas. Building friendship with people I would never have met otherwise.
I've met very interesting people as a guess and as a host.
I’ve worked as a photojournalist for most of my life and I guess the need of discovering unknow parts of the world and meet interesting people is still important even when I’m not in a working environment. I enjoy reading a lot maybe because it serves my natural curiosity. I have interest in Zen and meditation because I believe everything holds in the in the here and now.
Music, Movies, and Books
It is hard for me to name the books I've read because there are too many. Among those I've enjoyed the most are The Alchemist, from Paulo Coelho, Ishmael from Daniel Quinn, The Power of Now and A New Earth from Eckhart Tolle, most of Douglas Kennedy's novels, a few Hening Mankell, L'Euphorie perpétuelle de Pascal Bruckner on the" duty" to be happy in today's world. As for the movies, I've enjoyed Ghost, The Shawshank Redemption, The Razor's Edge, The Matrix, most of Star Treck movies, Gran Torino, Back to the Future 1... I like different kinds of music from the old classical Mozart, Chopin, to the more recent ones like Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, Charles Aznavour for his trumendous french love songs, ... to Madona, Michael Jackson, Shania Twain, Michael Buble, U2...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Catching and releasing cariboos in the north of the Quebec province to change colars with a transmitter to follow their incredible migration.
Spending two days on Grand Island in Hudson Bay with two Inuit guides to write a story on Canadian Geese Migration and the camp on the Island for guests and hunters.
Being a grandfather and discovering how fast the youngsters learn in our communication environment.
Teach, Learn, Share
