Join Couchsurfing to see Michaela ’s full profile. It’s free!
PLEASE! Do NOT send me requests unless you have read the following parts of my profile ("Why I am on CS", "My Interests", and "My Home") and clarified why you have picked me as a host. I only host about once a month and therefore I am very picky about my guests. You also have to discover the "password" that opens the door to my couch :)
being mother for the first time in my life, while starting a new post-doctoral research on urban social movements in the Czech Republic
I am a mother of a beautiful little boy, an owner of a cute little dog, a wife of a Canadian man, a human geographer, a left-wing activist, and a former hardcore singer. Please note that people who don't like dogs and babies are not welcome in our house.
I am an anti-capitalist inspired by Marxism and anarchism. I believe in humanity and in the planet Earth. I detest neoconservatism, neoliberalism and facist corporatism. I fear racism, climate change, greed and human stupidity.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I find couchsurfing one of the greatest thing invented. I like to host people, but I am very picky. I don't host more than once a month and I only host people that I find interesting. And of course I love surfing other people's couches :), it is the best part about travelling - having local people to stay with and being able to connect with them and learn from them!
I have surfed in Canada, USA, Poland, Germany, Slovenia and Croatia. I have also travelled with other couchsurfers. My couch has been surfed by people from the USA, Canada, Chile, Portugal, France, Poland, Germany, Greece, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, and many other non CS members.
In Canada I learned to trust my couchsurfers. They can feel at home in my place.
As a human geographer I study the role of urban social movements and alternative cultures in urban development. I am interested in geographical issues surrounding human rights, social inclusion etc. I also engage as an activist in the area of the development of Prague, co-running an NGO called PragueWatch.cz.
My next passion is travelling - backpacking, hiking, snowboarding. I love Asia and I have been to most European countries, and also to Canada, USA, Cuba, Morocco.
I am into art, music, cooking, architecture, abandoned buildings, yoga, dogs (!I especially my doggie Manicka!), books, languages, drawing and lately also into series and movies .)
Apart from being passionate about human geography, especially radical and critical urban geography, I am also interested in other social sciences, politics, philosophy etc etc. .) I love critical social theory!
