About Me

Easygoing, affable, contemplative, energetic. Always up for an adventure. Love listening to others' stories and learning their perspectives on the world. I'm happy when writing (even if it's going terribly), drawing, playing guitar, hiking, throwing frisbees, petting dogs, eating Italian food or anything with Nutella in it, and meeting new, stimulating people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When traveling, I'd rather stay with people who are friendly enough and open-minded enough to accept a couchsurfer into their home than stay by myself in an anonymous hotel.

Interests

Art as an avenue to imagining possible lives, classic fiction, poetry of Keats and Wallace Stevens, space disco, French house, making music, green tea, hiking, rock climbing, graffiti and breakdancing, animal welfare, the psychology of extreme wealth, probability and chaos theory, yoga, The Simpsons.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: My two favorite books ever are Don Quixote and Moby Dick. Along with them: One Hundred Years of Solitude, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Saul Bellow's novels, On The Road, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Walden, Emerson's essays, the works of Nietzsche and Kierkegaard that I've read, Taleb's The Black Swan & Antifragile, every book by Alain de Botton, and Bart Simpson's Guide to Life, my gateway drug to philosophy.

Music: Generally, I love space disco, French house, minimal/progressive techno, indie rock, chillwave, afrobeat, and jazz. Some of my favorite artists are Todd Terje, Lindstrom, Fred Falke, The Field, Deerhunter, The Strokes, Destroyer, No Age, Future Islands, Spoon, Cut Copy, Crystal Castles, LCD Soundsystem, The Juan MacLean, Andrew Bird, Modest Mouse, Sigur Ros

Movies: Memento, Pulp Fiction, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Fight Club, Out of Sight, Breathless, La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, American Hustle, Amores Perros, City of God, Snatch, Boogie Nights, Kill Bill, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Spaceballs, Austin Powers, The Big Lebowski

I also love the Simpsons and Arrested Development with all my heart.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once summited five (not very big) mountains in one day in Acadia National Park.

Recently I donated stem cells to a leukemia patient.

I've also swum in the Blue Grotto on the coast of Capri in Italy. Probably the single coolest (and coldest) experience of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach breakdancing moves, djing techniques, yoga postures, how to write fiction (maybe), and will happily talk about pretty much anything.

I would love to learn how to surf, do graffiti, build a fire, maybe do some improv comedy someday.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, lots of music recommendations, some decent cooking skills, and general camaraderie.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia

Countries I’ve Lived In

Italy, United States
