About Me

This account is pretty much for me and my fiance, Melanie. If I am traveling, it will be with her. We both love traveling, good conversation, craft beer and outdoor adventures. I run a music site: http://www.valleyviewmusic.net

We find traveling to be one of the most fulfilling things anyone can do. We are very excited and grateful for Couchsurfing and its wonderful hosts for providing unique opportunities to really explore this beautiful world.

Melanie and I are both vegetarian.

I truly believe my interests define a large part of who I am, as I am very passionate about my interests and all are a part of my life constantly. These can be found below.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I first heard about Couchsurfing, I thought it was one of the greatest ideas I've ever come across.

There are two main reasons I am on Couchsurfing: 1) I caught "the travel bug" a couple years ago, and Couchsurfing allows us all to do more of it; 2) I tend to avoid touristy stuff. Nothing gives you a better sense of a location than the people who actually live there. No one gives better suggestions of what to do than the locals.

These two things in tandem make for awesome, unique experiences that would be difficult, even near-impossible, to have any other way.

Interests

I love reading, jogging, sprinting, music (listening and playing... although less and less these days), learning, exploring nature, and craft beer. If I'm coming through your town, you can bet I visited or will be visiting one of your local breweries!

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a very broad taste in music. I am extremely passionate about my favorite bands and albums. I go to shows frequently. More on my music tastes can be found over at Last.fm (http://www.last.fm/user/trsmecp).

I have a few favorite director's: David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, David Fincher. Some of my favorite movies not by these director's include Gravity, American History X, Star Wars (including the prequel series), Mondo Cane, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I've also viewed countless TV series. I can talk The Wire, Parks and Rec, The Office (U.S. version... don't hate me!), Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, Game of Thrones, Community, Rick & Morty, etc., all day.

Favorite books include Infinite Jest, If on a Winter's Night a Traveler, The Mysterious Stranger, House of Leaves, A Clockwork Orange. On the more popular side, I do love Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series. My favorite author is probably David Foster Wallace. All books I've read can be found on Goodreads. There are also some reviews I wrote, though they are years old now: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/3870914-mike-sheehan

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Melanie and I, plus 2 other friends, walked the entire length of Manhattan from north to south over the course of 8 hours. It was a 17 mile walk since we took some detours. Maybe doesn't qualify as amazing, but it was certainly a memorable experience.

Our other most amazing experience thus far was biking down La Jolla Mountain in San Diego, then kayaking on the Pacific Ocean a couple hours later.

Both will be topped in 2017 when we go on our planned cross-country trip, I'd imagine. Can't wait!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my passion for my interests. If your passions extend to music, books, TV, craft beer, or traveling, we can talk for hours. I love to have a good time and if there is something you get a pleasure sharing, I can keep an open mind and share your excitement. My fiance and I love a good conversation and respect everyone's boundaries and mood. We are always willing to roll with suggestions from our gracious hosts!

I am always down for a little jam session or to share a few good beers! If being hosted in the US or Canada I will likely come through with some beer you can't get in your area (if you're into that kind of thing), as I am quite knowledgeable on what's available where. Unfortunately this is difficult to do elsewhere due to airlines' restrictions on weight and baggage sizes.
