I'm Milan, a filmmaker based in Amsterdam. At heart, I'm a storyteller. I use different kind of media to fulfill this desire, the most important ones being filmmaking and photography. Telling stories provides me with great happiness.

Although I was born in the Netherlands I do not really consider myself to be a Dutchman. The world has so much to offer that it doesn't really makes sense to me to stay in one place all of your life. I can imagine a future in where I give up having a single spot which I call home, but that moment has not yet arrived. Because Amsterdam is a city I absolutely love and although I love traveling as well, coming back to this place is never ever punishment. It has so much to offer in terms of, family, friendship, beauty and art that there are only boring moments if you allow yourself not to be entertained by the city.

However, I see the importance of disconnecting once in a while so to appreciate what it is I'm actually doing in my day to day life and reevaluating just that. I learn as much about myself, as about different places, people and human behavior while I'm in places where I don't know day to day life. Challenging yourself into new situations and growing because of it is, at least for me, a very important thing in life. Traveling and encountering new situations also provides me with a lot of input for stories, which again makes me happy. Like a positive vicious circle.

I am a great fan of fiction. It provides a great insight in human nature, and to me tells much more about what we are, or what we would like to be than the news, science or other things we usually associate with reality. The beauty I see in life is everywhere, but I don't see it returning in mainstream media reporting 'reality'. In art we're actively searching for beauty, which makes it better recognizable, and also helps to create it. To me there's no clear difference between life and art, and the one inspires to other as much as the other way around. So I create the reality around me out of my own experience, the stories I encounter and the stories I tell.

Next to storytelling, doing yoga and meditation are two other essentials in my life which provide me with a kind of balance that makes me encounter everything with a kind of easygoingness which was completely alien to me before I started with the practice. Since I introduced them in my life everything in life has become so natural that all problems and obstacles seem to disappear. I'm constantly moving between going out in the world and having experiences and moving back into myself and finding the balance again. Every day I try to find an hour or two to do the practice.

Because of all the statements made above I am very interested in so many projects offered on this beautiful website.
I'll be just as happy doing something which lies in my field of expertise as something that does not. I'm interested in a lot of different things and when it comes to jobs within workaway projects I'm open to any suggestion. I want to discover new places and learn to know new crafts and new people. Being part of a community is a feeling which provides so much happiness that I want to keep doing that for all my life.
