About Me

Living, at the speed of Life. On a boat.

I am kind of like a jubilant puppy with a hopelessly analytical mind. We'll go out for a picnic and as soon as the door opens I'll rush wildly to the edge, only to dig my heels in desperately trying to stop short of the precipice. If I avoid careening off into space, then I'll sniff around curiously for a while until everyone figures I'm not going to do anything stooped after all. The next time someone thinks to check on me I'll have vanished, and the only consolation is that no one heard a splash. Love love love meeting new people places, things, and animals.

PHILOSOPHY

If you remember a time when you realized that you'd bitten off more than you could chew but decided to keep on anyway--in spite of the fear in your stomach and the sweat on your plams--if you can remember the moment that comes after that, after you've fought forward and backward and tried to go through, over, under and around the obstacle, if you can remember the instant that obstacle suddenly melted away like a dark dream and you fist-pumped the air shouting, "I'm really gonna do it!" Well, if you can remember that, then you know what I live for.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Just logged back into my account after a years-long hiatus. I love to travel, but I do not enjoy the isolating experience of being a tourist. It is so much more wonderful to connect with real human beings who are interested in interacting for connection, rather than business. My absolute favorite travels, from Japan to Puerto Rico, have been in the context of humanitarian volunteering, and the thing that made them so wonderful were the people whose lives became entangled with mine.

Interests

I'd like to think that I'm eager to try anything that could lead to constructive experiences. If you bring your traveler's eyes to my town then I'll get to experience it in a new way, even if just from hearing what you came to see.

Music, Movies, and Books

Finite and Infinite Games; Patrick O'Brien; C.S. Forester; The Matrix; Source Code; Atlas Shrugged (Book); George Orwell; Hitchhiker's Guide (the books); All kinds of music from country to hip hop; the occasional romantic comedy; Don Juan De Marco; Tango music; I like most things that are well-done.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you'd like to learn pretty much anything about working with your hands, I can teach it. I'd love to learn guitar and singing, and languages are lots of fun to explore too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live on a boat, so the experience of that. Depending on my schedule at the time, sailing the San Francisco Bay (in particular to places like Angel Island) is a pretty awesome experience. A picnic anchored at the foot of Ghiradellhi Square, Clipper Cove, China Camp, Ayala Cove... There are lots of options.
