ABOUT ME

Open-minded and easy going 20-something vegetarian, sometimes dreamy and lost in thought, excited by life at others.

I feel lucky to have grown up in Europe and Southern Africa, having seen life from such different perspectives.

PHILOSOPHY

Dare to take the path less trodden and get yourself lost (I seem to be quite talented at that).

Life is a labyrinth and no path leads directly to the center.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

That incredible moment when I told my friend Maxine about my idea to start a place on the internet where complete strangers could meet and visit each other for free, and she told me "Couchsurfing" already existed.

Interests

I did my best to put them in some kind of order:

- Being in nature, just listening and watching the world go by, running through the woods and pretty much anywhere, wild swimming, jumping off cliffs, swimming in high waves, setting off without knowing where I'll end up and just following my nose ...

- Photography, journalism, entrepreneurship, languages, art (love Rothko), architecture, flying (my childhood dream)

Experimental electronica and many others. Sometimes guilty of being a spotiphile.

Prefer theatre but love Tarkovsky and other Russian films, films from my childhood, anything Attenborough!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling through Russia and Ukraine on my own, talking to people from different backgrounds in both countries; soldiers, teachers, historians, journalists, activists, and refugees to name but a few.

Inspired by the conflict and the entailing media war I wanted to show the situation from a more human perspective. I was deeply touched by how openly and warmly I was received in both countries, even though almost everyone is effected by the war. I took home 17 hours of recorded interviews and am still working on the translations ...
