About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a Boston-raised, California-educated media maker and right now, I'm gearing up to film a documentary about young adults adapting to climate change across America. I've had fantastic experiences with CouchSurfing in the past, both as an outlet for making new friends in new places, and finding interesting folks to interview for prior media projects.

On a more general note, if one were to quiz my friends about me, I'd imagine the responding quotes might include the following:

"Gregarious"
"Goofy"
"Thoughtful"
"Empathic"
"Passionate"
"Independent"
"Low-Maintenance"
"Able to discuss Wayne's World and democratic socialist governments in the same conversation"

PHILOSOPHY

#1: Bill Bryson - "It's an unnerving thought that we may be the living universe's supreme achievement and its worst nightmare simultaneously."

#2: Werner Herzog - "Facts do not convey truth. That's a mistake. Facts create norms, but truth creates illumination."

#3: JRR Tolkien - "Not all those who wander are lost."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I'm living somewhere for more than two months, hopefully with cool roommates, I open my home to fellow travelers looking for a cozy place to crash and socialize. When I'm traveling, I look for the same thing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've used CouchSurfing while traveling for work and/or recreation throughout the United States. I've also hosted many unofficial "surfers" on futons and spare beds over the years.

Interests

At least 60% of my time is spent researching and writing new projects. Currently on my plate is a documentary about young American adults and climate change called "Three Walks To Nowhere" (check it out at www.threewalksmovie.org).

When I'm not working, I enjoy sweating and panting in any way possible: weightlifting, running, swimming, long walks about cities, hiking. The outdoors is my second home and I've spent several seasons working in the wild for a New Hampshire-based nonprofit. I'm also a lifelong film buff: Mad Max Fury Road is at the top of my 2015 Must-See list. In addition, my ears often contain earbuds blasting shoegaze, electronica, or 80s music. (I'm currently addicted to the newest Chromatics singles) And of course, I love splaying out someplace warm with a good book or magazine.

Above all, I try to remain connected to the issues that are shaping our world each day: through community engagement or regular discussion with friends and family.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbing to the mountain village of Zdiar, Slovakia at twilight on Thanksgiving 2009.

Being awoken by the roars of howler monkeys at 5 AM in Costa Rica and nearly wetting myself with terror.

Leaving Osheaga music festival last summer and listening to thousands of dirty, drunken Montrealers singing "Snoop Doggy-Dooog-O-og-O-og" in the metro station (with strong French Canadian accents.)

Teach, Learn, Share

The people who compel me are those who give voice to the voiceless, who venture places conventional folks are scared to tread, and most of all, people whose dreams and achivements go beyond self-fulfillment and make the world a more cooperative place.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An open ear, stories, laughs, and hopefully some great beer!
