About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Inner and Outer Space Exploration!

ABOUT ME

I am on an incredible life journey to learn more about human-kind, myself and the choices we make in our every day lives. I´m particularly interested in trying new foods, learning new languages (practicing what I already know!) seeing new places, meeting animals and people, working hard and discovering new positive elements of human nature.

I work in the field of community development, and hope that in some way, my work contributes to improving life for others.

PHILOSOPHY

Know thyself. And the golden rule: treat others how you would want to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have not hosted in a couple of years since moving to British Columbia, but now that I am settled and have the space, I would be happy to receive guests for a few days. I am also starting to try and make travel a priority in my life again, when I am able to afford it and can take the time off work.

I am happy to host, get together with other couch surfers, trade travel stories, show you something unique about my community, or share a meal. I work during the days, but my partner, Richard, is free during winter daytime, and so could also help play host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a great time couch-surfing across Europe while travelling alone in my mid 20's! I find couch-surfing an excellent way to learn the ins-and-outs of a community and culture you wouldn't otherwise get the opportunity to. I have hosted some lovely people, and am always happy to extend hospitality.

Interests

I am interested in learning new things, the outdoors, hiking, trading stories, philosophy, coffee and tea, cooking, art, shopping, cinema, new foods, new music, and living life well. Oh my goodness, chances are you name it - I'll enjoy it!

Presently my hobbies include plein air oil painting, gardening (mostly foods), preserving/ pickling, hiking, and burlesque dancing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've walked the Santiago de Compostela, 800km walking with 30 kilo on my back across Spain, getting to enjoy the local and regional specialties of the places I would walk through. And then on to Finnestera, the end of the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

Listen.
Be brave.
Don't be afraid to go it alone, you will surely meet the right people along the Way.
Keep a hand on your pack at all times. And zippers down to the sides rather than closed at the top.
Pack light.
Learn to say thank-you and please in the local language. Push yourself to try to learn the langauges you encounter.
Take notes.
Read body language more than any other (it is often spoken with the eyes and shoulders).
Follow your gut.
Believe in your ability to handle any situation and make your dreams come true.
Dont be afraid to leap into the void of the unknown.
Follow impulse and intuition, but be cautious not to stray too far off the path, or end up in situations where people don't have verification processes in place (check-in with people watching out for you.)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Know your boundaries and trust your intuition - if you get a good or strange feeling about a guest, be willing to make a decision, not knowing if your decision will ever be validated. You open your home because you want to support other travelers, 'pay it forward' and help someone else make a positive memory in your city or town, but that doesn't mean you need to put up with people who may not respect you or your space.
