About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Currently traveling and working on living permanently overseas...

To experience life and explore the great wonder found in people, places, and all nature.

ABOUT ME

I'm very adventurous and love to travel. I like to exercise. Used to be the gym, but I prefer swimming in the ocen. I spent much time skateboarding in a previous life; still ride occasionally. I've surfed but not so good. I like researching, thinking about, and learning quantitatively and abstractly and of course meeting interesting people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I had a place here in the states I offered to host people but only one person ever actually did. I've been on the site for almost 10 years and have gone to eat with others in the community and I've begun to try to stay in other's homes recently as I've been travelling by car down the Western US (so far)...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with a couple people, so far, which was so much better than any other way to stay in a city that I'm aware of... I hosted a guy who was passing through once...

Interests

I am interested in perception, reality, the effect what they are calling consciousness on matter... that thought physically affect quantum effects, like the physicists discovered many decades ago with the double-slit experiment. How nature always uses the simplest way possible for physical processes and how that transcribes to the way we formulate mathematics to find the the same simplicity but in abstract way. The fact that we are all alive right now during the very beginning of what has to be the greatest shift as a species. Of course, meeting travelers is always good, next to your own travels of course!!

Music, Movies, and Books

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is one that always comes to mind... or Brave New World... too many non-fiction books to mention. Music: I heard hip hop-like music in the Arab world that is a whole other level than the west. I was mystified by how the West's music, typically of 4-4 beats in a repeating pattern, is completely abandoned and they just follow their gut with heavy African-influenced (my own conjecture, as I only listened to it while being in various settings) rhythms are like listening in the equivalent of IMAX, and so very powerful --the power of silence in music-- if you can imagine the fullness in the air of the barroom or club floor just drops until after a few seconds it kicks back down as if to the rhythm of the sacred mystery.

Oh, and I love Thai music. I was just thinking recently how in my experience, one of the most underrated things about Thailand is how wonderful their music is... so many musicians...so prolific in guitar... so rich in their culture that you'll hear songs all day, literally everywhere you go, except maybe the banks and Buddhist temples.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was sitting down trying to relax after searching for a scooter to get around on when I got word from the owner of the Lebanese restaurant that there was just an 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Malaysia. "How far is that?" "Two hundred miles..." No rest in paradise. I frantically chose to use my scooter to warn the others down by the beach of the island where we stayed. I went to the wrong beach and got down to the lowland where we were staying and yelled "tsunami warning"... I grabbed my passport and took back off to find the Lebanese lady but could not. I wouldn't go home for 3 days, which happened to coincide with the whole Songran festival.
