About Me
I'm an American student currently traveling Europe for the Summer! I am staying in Metz on a university campus and taking classes during the week, but traveling every weekend. Unavailable to host during this time :(
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
This summer is the first time I've done serious traveling, especially without my parents. I have been using hostels and AirBnB, but there is always something missing: personal interactions! I came to Europe not just to see pretty cathedrals (which are beautiful, to be sure), but to learn about how Europeans live their lives.
Interests
Music! I make up for my lack of language skills by being fluent in music. I can play just about any instrument at least a little, but my favorites are Saxophone, Guitar, Mandolin, and Banjo. I've been enjoying Fiddle and Piano recently too.
I listen to all sorts of music: Bluegrass to Jazz to Rock. I always love to share.
I'm an engineering student, so I love solving problems and thinking critically. My goal in engineering is to help solve the world's energy problems. I'm not sure what my path will be, but I know I want it to be in the right direction - away from fossil fuels.
Books have been a love of mine forever and ever since I learned to read I have read before bed every night. I'm working on Steinbeck's East of Eden right now.
I love the outdoors and regularly hike and camp in the Appalachian mountains near Georgia.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I'm not even sure where to start. Some of my favorite living songwriters and composers are Béla Fleck, Abigail Washburn, Ben Folds, and Chris Thile. I love Jazz in all its forms, but especially modern R&B influenced stuff like Snarky Puppy and Robert Glasper. Folk and traditional music from all around the world always interests me, but I know the most about American and Irish. I love Rock and play in a Rock band - I appreciate its ability to get people moving. My musical education is in classical/concert music. I love the wind ensemble and the orchestra. Some of my favorite composers are Grainger, Tchaikovsky, Ives, and Ravel.
Books: I like to read classics. Some of my favorite books I've ever read are Les Miserables by Hugo (in English, for now...), Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut, and The Caine Mutiny by Wouk.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Explored abandoned 13th century military tunnels beneath a small town in Belgium. One of my favorite experiences.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have an open policy of teaching everything I know about anything to anyone. This especially applies to music! I'm well versed in music theory and in technique on a number of instruments and will happily share!
I'm pretty good at math and science so if for some reason you need help with your calculus homework I've got you covered. I also work well with my hands and know how to use tools.
I'd like to learn about how people really live and have lived in the past. Sometimes just observing peoples' everyday lives is the best way to learn these things.
I'd love to learn any language! I'm working most on French right now, but am not very good yet... maybe I need a conversation partner!
What I Can Share with Hosts
If you like I'll bring my guitar and play music for or with you! I'll tell you anything you want to know about being from a small town in Georgia, USA, being an engineering student, or my travels in Europe. I'm not much of a cook, but I'll do my best and I can try to show you what food is like where I come from.
