Born to the tough streets of Chicago’s south side MJ Roadz (Mikkijeane Roads) is a singer-songwriter with a distinctive raspy voice and a soulful singing style. Mikkijeane grew up listening to Marvin Gaye, and the trademark “Motown Sound”.
At 15, MJ hit the road with a guitar over the shoulder and music in her ear. She put inner city life in the rearview mirror and has never looked back. Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” could have been written for this modern day gypsy as she has spent time in Nashville, Atlanta, Miami and Austin before making Phoenix, Arizona home.
Her composition is poignant and commands the ear to listen. MJ’s creates music to make us feel. Song’s that stir the heart and wake the soul. Early tunes like “Wither” are both beautiful yet painful and speak agonizingly about a life left behind. Tracks like “Heavy Heart” and “Sold my Soul” tell stories of purpose, heartache and devotion. Mikkijeane is an old soul that like most great songwriters unapologetically weaves life experience into the melody she shares.
Since arriving to Phoenix, MJ has found a home in the desert. This full-time musician has already taken the stage on some of the area’s most important venues, playing The Crescent, The Rogue and Rock Bar just to mention a few.
MJ suggests, “That the only time I feel truly alive is onstage.” She goes onto say, “I didn’t choose music, it chose me”. In declaring that ‘God hates a coward’, there is no cowardice in Mikkijeane nor the music she croons.

ust ventured here from Phoenix ... but originally from Chicago. I'm a full-time musician and philanthropist. Most recently founded my first non-profit organization called Karma Paid Gigs and it basically focuses on *Sound Philanthropy*
Which consists of musicians sharing their many diverse musical talents with under privilege children and adults via homeless shelters...
