About Me

I'm 23 (almost) but have the heart of a 55 year old, studied in New York, studied in Berlin, moved to Izmir, soon moving to Ankara :( (deniz yok) to begin my Master's Program. I've been working here for a year and a half as a teacher.

Most people like me. I like most people. I don't like Nazis. I have strong opinions about politics but I also am always open for debate and I never take things personally or hold a grudge, it's all about having that communication that's the most important thing for me, spreading ideas.

I've been Couchsurfing for 4 years, saw it go from being a non-profit to a for-profit...seriously, 35% of filling out your profile is linking it with Facebook? But I believe the people on this site keep the non-profit spirit alive, actually caring about their guests/hosts, wanting to meet new people not just to get to know new 'cultures' but to get to know new, interesting, individual persons.

My life has changed from Couchsurfing, 75% of my friends I either gained directly or indirectly on two continents, and I'm always up for a beer or a water or a gazoz and a talk and a meal and a walk around the city, wherever it may be, as host or as traveler.

"Wohin wollen Sie gehen?"
"Dorthin, wo man mir sagt: 'Du bist Gast hier'œ und ich antworten kann: "Ja gerne!"

Kein Mensch is(s)t illegal.

Stand up against injustice. Doesn't matter how big or small, don't let yourself get walked on, and more importantly, don't let others get walked on. Raise your voice when need be.

I translate articles for a magazine that I like.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now really into Berliner Schule and old Turkish movies. Huge fan of Thomas Arslan and Fatih Akin.

Currently very big into German hip hop and some of the up-and-coming artists in the states, especially Chicago and NY rappers. But I listen to anything, really.

Brecht is the best, but I also love Emine Sevgi Özdamar and Selim Özdogan

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having a logical conversation with my 1.5 year old niece for the first time on Skype.

Signed up for really has changed my life for the better in so many ways.
