About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be open, aware, and build shared experiences over 5 months of travel and volunteering in India and Nepal.

ABOUT ME

My name is Michael, a 23 year old from Seattle, Washington. I recently graduated from Seattle University, then worked for a microfinance NGO called Lumana in Seattle and Ghana, and am now traveling and consulting in Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal until June 2013. Though it's hard to communicate with any depth in a paragraph, I try to be as compassionate, open, and curious as possible. I love to discuss, debate, or listen in depth about almost any topic. Most of all, I deeply enjoy expanding my perspective and looking at things in a new light. Through you, I hope to do that, and hopefully return the favor.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I am only surfing, but will be hosting when I settle in Seattle this summer! ('13)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only had two thus far, but they were among my best times in India. Both shared their lives with me, and showed me parts of their localities (physical and metaphorical) that I would not have experience otherwise.

Interests

Many, many things. Coffee usually comes first, then the following:
Hobbies: Reading, hiking, basketball, chess, reddit
Intellectually: economics, politics, cultural psychology and their intersection. Technology. Myth/sacred texts, philosophy, cosmology.
Sports: All of them, but I don't understand cricket yet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moments of awe are often unexpected, and it's hard to find two. During clear winter days, I wake up in awe of the mountains which surround Seattle. They never cease to stop my breath. Secondly, I am routinely in awe at the kindness shown by people to one another and to me, whether it's deserved or not, no matter the material circumstances.
