Conquer the world through sheer force of wit.
I may look slightly nerdy, but I'm actually a really big one. I just happen to be interested in so many topics that they all ALMOST balance each-other out. I have a very british sense of humor which I rarely if ever suppress. I get my news from The Economist, New York Times, the BBC, and the hour of awesomeness that is Stewart/Colbert.
I speak English and Spanish, can swear in Canadian French, and know bits and pieces of several others but not enough to do anything besides get drunk or slapped.
I can talk about whatever you choose, but will geek out the most on alternative energy, politics, sports, economics, religion, and beer. I believe that the latter is one of the three chemicals that make up Canadian blood, the other two being maple syrup and snow.
Maple syrup in coffee is the best thing since peanut butter and chocolate.
I can go off topic sometimes, but there's usually a method to my madness and I can keep it under control when I choose.
My life goal is to learn as much about as much as I can before the world ends. I am continuing this quest by accepting a job in an unfamiliar field in an unfamiliar land (LA)starting late June, and would love to meet new people!
Think that covers the basics. Disclaimer: I am subject to change without notice.
"Treat other people like you'd want them to treat you" is the simplest way to put it. If I try to make it longer than that I may well start going off on tangents. That could be dangerous. It may involve a platypus. Or a spaghetti monster.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been out of the scene for a while, but in the past have had great experiences surfing, hosting and hanging out with the wonderfully eclectic CS community. Hopefully I can do the same in Los Angeles!
When the stars align correctly I've been known to throw a gathering, but it's been some time since such a situation has presented itself. Betelgeuse is stubbornly refusing to get back in position, and no amount of sacrificial goats have been able to remedy this.
I started with CS in the fall of '07, and since then have met a much more diverse selection of awesome people than I expected or even thought possible. My first official surfing experience happened in London a few months back and was quite the adventure. More than anything, it's been great having a group of like- (and yet also unlike) minded individuals to hang out, accidentally travel with and in general share good times.
Life, the universe, and everything. Bonus points for getting the reference.
Music, Movies, and Books
Tough to categorize my tastes. As far as music goes it's pretty eclectic, everything from classical to jazz to house to metal and back to rock and roll. Depends on my mood. Ditto for movies and books. I will recommend Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Wolfe, and Hunter Thompson for the latter though.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've celebrated the New Year on four continents, and hope some day to bring that number up to six (if not seven).
