About Me

I'm not hosting right now

∞∞∞∞ QUICK INFO ∞∞∞∞

Hey you all :)

This is Martin from Barcelona.

I live in a flat with my sister Teresa, we call it "La Plataforma".

If you wanna check my sister's profile, please: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/teresa-mm-1

Generally, we have little time, but we will be happy to share time with you if possible.

For now, we only host maximum of one person and for around 2-3 days.

**IMPORTANT**: When you write me a couch request, please include the phrase: "Couchsurfing at La Plataforma" in your message, otherwise I will automatically decline your request. CS is not a hotel.

If I don’t reply immediately, don’t worry; I usually respond a few days before the requested date. Thanks for your patience!

∞∞∞∞ ABOUT ∞∞∞∞

Barcelona local, but passionate about the world.

I’m an aspiring writer with an open-minded and laid-back personality. I like to stay active and productive, following routines and getting things done, but I also appreciate slowing down for contemplative walks and deep conversations.

I love exploring bookstores, libraries, bustling markets, or simply losing myself in crowded places and observing people, like a flâneur. There’s a special joy in discovering new places, wandering, and taking long hikes; I’m drawn to temples, mountains, abandoned sites, and less-traveled paths.

My instagram is @barrio.viajero

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really appreciate every conversation and every detail I can learn from the people who host me. Couchsurfing is about learning. In our lives, we are usually surrounded by people who lead a 'normal' life in our country, with our language, our customs, and a sense of repetition. However, every couchsurfer always offers you a different perspective of the world.

During my travels, I have always felt welcomed by the locals. They have shown me their places, invited me for tea and coffee, let me sleep in their homes, and helped me explore their country: trying to blend closely with life, as Hemingway would say. Couchsurfing is a way to give back that help in the form of traveler altruism.

Interests

My passions are reading, traveling, writing and fighting, and my interests are wide: history, philosophy, international politics, literature, music, psychology, martial arts, spirituality, personal development, psychedelia, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

- Music: I love many things and I'm open to new music. Lately, I've been into progressive rock, jazz, flamenco, and electronic music.

- Films and Series: Favorites include "They Live," "The Matrix," "Inception," "City of God," "The Wire," and "Breaking Bad", among others.

- Books: While I don’t have a favorite, I often recommend "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse and "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Moved to Scotland to hustle with 1,000 euros in my pocket (no friends, no job, and poor English).

- Wrote a book about a four-month journey I took through Eastern Europe and Turkey, exploring off-the-beaten-path locations like Kaliningrad, Belarus, Transnistria, Gagauzia, Eastern Ukraine, Kurdistan, and Northern Cyprus. It's called "Viaje por la última frontera de Europa".

- Visited Mount Athos and have written a book about it, which is yet to be published.

- Transitioned my career to software development in 6 months.

- Seen Dalai Lama in the Long Life Prayer, in Dharamshala, India.

Teach, Learn, Share

- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. I've been doing martials arts for 13 years. I'm also teacher and write content about BJJ.
- Stroll around Barcelona. I love walking.
- I'm learning Cajón. We can play some music. I've got several instruments at home.
