About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Replenishing my spirit, learning to ride a bike

ABOUT ME

I'm a California native, but I spent the last seven years in New York City. In early 2011 I got laid off, decided it was a blessing, put all my work clothes in storage, and flew to Ireland. I'm exploring life outside corporate culture, just trying to figure out what's good for me and what I want to do next.

I like to stay up late, but I don't drink much, or go out to bars and party.

PHILOSOPHY

Love, forgive, communicate, care and be cared for.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

How do I participate in the world? I try to listen well and speak thoughtfully, stay true to my friends and family, and show my love with food. Seriously. I will try to feed or make tea for everyone I meet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My favorite hosting experience was when my whole flat stayed up late playing Scrabble with a German doctor who was in town for a conference. My favorite hosts were the cows of Elm Lea Farm, who were so generous with their loft space and body heat.

Interests

I love books, cooking, music, little kids, and secondhand stores of all kinds. I mostly read nonfiction about science and sf/f, and I'm crazy about traditional music -- American, British Isles, and Georgian, mostly. I'm "AnCeol" on youtube if you want to check out some of the music I'm trying to preserve and share.

Music, Movies, and Books

I do listen to some non-trad music; lately, I've been really into Carbon Leaf and The Indigo Girls, and I love The Grateful Dead, The Who, Simon & Garfunkel, and The Beatles. Trad-wise, there's always the Watersons, Alan Lomax's recordings, and tons of compilation albums and bootlegs.Books. Too many to name. The best books I've read recently were The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, and Gentlemen of the Road. And I caught up on my favorite trashy vampire books over Christmas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen a newborn calf takes its first steps. We were cheering for you all the way, little buddy!
