About Me

Born in Beijing, China, and lived in different parts of Canada, I now call Montreal home. I have a background in Art History, have a huge interest in everything related to art, history and culture, and always take my camera with me when I am on the road. As someone who has travelled across five continents and who is always ready to catch a last-minute flight for new adventures, I see myself as a world citizen.

I tend to embrace spontaneity when I travel, preferring to dive deep in the local culture, make new friends, and uncover hidden gems off the beaten path. I've backpacked across numerous countries in Europe, Asia, North Africa, Central and South America, each experience more amazing than the last. As a solo female traveler, I haven't always had the opportunity to stay with Couchsurfing hosts, but I've had countless encounters with fellow travellers and locals on the road, sometimes through Couchsurfing meetups, sometimes at hostels, Airbnbs, or even while wandering the local streets.

Back in my university years, my time and living space were limited. Now, at a point in my life where I can finally host at my place, I am very glad to welcome travellers from around the world. I look forward to showing you my city, sharing experiences, and exchanging stories. Also, I view this as a way to give back to the global travel community that has enriched my life in countless ways.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Writing this profile brings back memories of my very first solo trip abroad. I was 18, freshly graduated from high school in a very remote small town in Canada. Against the wishes of my very traditionally-minded Asian parents, I packed a little suitcase, booked a flight to Los Angeles, and went on a trip alone. My very first experience staying at a hostel was delightful. One morning, as I was cooking pancakes for breakfast, a fellow traveler, much older than I, struck up a conversation with me. He asked, "Have you ever been to the desert in San Diego? You must go there sometime." He went on to describe the beauty of San Diego and shared inspiring stories about his own travel experiences across the United States and the world. I still remember the spark in his eyes, the unmistakable passion he had for exploring.

Upon returning from that trip, I began my university studies and joined a student newspaper as a writer. My very first published article that fall was titled "Have You Ever Been to the Desert in San Diego?" I recounted my adventures as a solo traveler, my unwavering desire to hit the road again and again, and the the spark in the eyes of the traveller who shared his stories with me.

Now, exactly ten years later, I once jokingly remarked to a friend that after so many years, I still haven't been to San Diego, despite it being a relatively easy trip. My friend responded, "Why does that matter? You have become the one who passionately shares your own travel stories and convincing others to embark on their own journeys."
Tears of joy welled up in my eyes when I heard that. In many ways, my friend was right. Over the past decade, I've gone on so many adventures spanning five continents of this world, meeting incredible people and having unforgettable experiences that enriched my life in countless ways. Since that momentous first trip, I've never looked back and will never stop my journey.
