My favourite part of trips are the discovery of nature's overwhelming beauty by bike or hiking etc, as well plunging into big city life, wandering about, and watch it live, hear its sounds, smell its flavours, feel its energy, and meet its people. And that's where couchsurfing comes in.
I prefer to meet local People and see original places, not the touristic hotspots everyone goes to.
