ABOUT ME
*Profile update 20th November 2019: I am sorry I won't be able to host at the moment as I am travelling to Europe.
Just call me Alan. Originally from Malaysia. Been joining Couchsurfing since 2012 and it has been a wonderful journey and experience since then.
I did not host when I first joined this website as I stayed with my family and my place is quite far from Kuala Lumpur. But now, I stay at my own place, but still, far from the centre. If you would like to see places outside Kuala Lumpur, I am more than happy to host you.
I did hosting when I studied in London. Been away from home to further my studies for two years. I lived in Hatfield, around 22 minutes by train from central London. Amazing place. I love it. Calm, quiet, and the most important thing is, not too far from London. But now I am back home, in Malaysia, working as a teacher for primary school.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I discovered CS in the Rough Guide to Europe on A Budget which I bought for my first Eurotrip 4 years ago.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
The moment when your couch requests being accepted by the future host, priceless! It is true at some places, it's pretty hard to get a host. I met a lot of nice people from this website, and did not be able to host anyone when I was in Malaysia as I lived with my family and the location was not so convenient for travellers.
I also enjoy staying at hostels when I travel. Meeting people at hostels is a wonderful experience, especially when you have a list of places to visit, and you could probably visiting the places together with your dormmates. Say I have 5 days in one place, the first 3 days will be at the hostel and the remaining days are with the locals.
Some hosts may be busy with work. And if I get a host, I love spending time with them in the evening, sharing meals (or I cook), or if they have free time, we could probably see places. Locals know more than the guide book.

Music, Movies, and Books
Honestly, I don't really know the names of the singers. I just listen to whatever I want.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Solo Eurotrip in 2012. Which was not really a culture for Malaysians to travel solo in other countries.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Food is our national sport. Therefore, I could share or cook for you if you want. If you've been to Southeast Asia, you will probably familiar with our food.
Language. This is not something that I can share with hosts but I love the hosts to share their language with me. I love languages! I purposely went to Lyon and stayed there to learn French for two months after my student visa expired. In general, I love learning and knowing new languages even it is just 5 to 10 words during the stay.
