About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn about myself by exploring our planet, embarking on adventures, meeting great people, and embracing novel experience.

ABOUT ME

PHILOSOPHY

I want to live well. Life is all that I know, so I want to do it well. Death is one part of life that I can't know until it happens, so I cherish life and the people I encounter and the mysteries, challenges, and joys they present. I try to do each day something that I have not done before.

Interests

Climbing mountains, backpacking, hiking, and camping, biking, surfing, coffee shops, and dreaming up and building software.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite books recently have been Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills, Into Thin Air, A Walk in the Woods, Into the Wild. I like poetry by Henry David Thoreau, Robert Frost, and Lewis Carroll among others.

Some of my favorite movies are Into the Wild, 180 South, 127 Hours, Premium Rush, Moon, and Pirates of Silicon Valley.

My favorite band is The Flaming Lips.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Yosemite. Backpacking on the PCT and JMT for 5 days. Hiking non-stop for three days till collapse from exhaustion.

Night hiking up Half Dome to sit for a few hours, watching the transformation from night to dawn that is sunrise. I thought my small group was alone on the summit, but later discovered that others were sleeping beneath rocks on the summit, after they began to slowly rise, one by one.

Being on the edge of slanted rocks on the summit of Mount Whitney after being awake for over 24 hours.

Bouldering at Camp 4.
