ABOUT ME

An ex-pat of Providence, RI, I recently quit my job in IT Security and spent the last year traveling the country to find a new place to call home. I spend my free time as an embed in the local art, music, and maker communities.

Passionate, capable, preternaturally kind, periodically shy, lover of humor, and deeply loyal. My former professional lives have seen me in the roles of chef, network admin, nanny, house renovator, writer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was a musician back in my earlier years, so I was perpetually dependent on the kindness of friends-of-friends and complete strangers for a place to stay. I've never outgrown that ancient sense of the responsibility of and gratitude for Hospitality.

兴趣

You know what category is missing here? Humor. You can tell a lot about a person - and a lot about how you'll get along with someone - by the things that make them laugh. For me, in no particular order: Charlie Chaplin, Eddie Izzard, Vonnegut, The Marx Bros., Monty Python, David Sedaris, Kids In The Hall.

No such thing as "favorite" music, but here's a current run-down -- Keith Richards, Nick Cave, misc. Alan Lomax tracks, Jewish liturgical chants, Deer Tick, Melt Banana, The Rev. Al Green, Goran Bregovic, Yusuf Islam, Sam Phillips, Sidney Bechet, Guns 'n Roses, Aerosmith, Radiohead, Sam Philips, Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose.

Movies? Fur, Nochnoy Dozor, Harvey, Ed Wood, Russian Ark, Birdy, Princess Mononoke, M, Trainspotting, The Seven Samurai, anything by Charlie Chaplin, The Secret of Roan Innish (just excellent story telling), On the Waterfront, Straight to Hell, My Best Fiend, The Five Obstructions, After Life, Tampopo, The Princes Bride, The Prophecy. And I have a soft spot for superhero movies.

Books - "The Curtain", Milan Kundera; "One Hundred Years of Solitude", Gabriel García Márquez; "Jude the Obscure", Thomas Hardy; Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series - and "The Ocean at the End of the Lane"; "A Short History of a Small Place", T. R. Pearson. I was just introduced to Andrei Bely. Wow.
