PHILOSOPHY

we are all human, we all have the same needs, wants and desires. i really don't understand about hate and why it's hard to take/make opportunities to learn about each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i had been hosting and guesting for years - i just found out there's a group for this!
Just got back from the 2010 rainbow gathering in PA - I hosted several 'blanket surfers' at our couchsurfing camp and cooked up some real good venison goulash!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly as far as myself being hosted - I have been going to NGLTF cons for several years and one of the things they offer is community housing - staying with someone in the community - this helps those who are 'income challenged' or for those who want a more communal connection...
as far as myself hosting - as far back as 1984 i have had folks staying with us for short and long periods of time... some good some not so good, but i enjoy the energy...

Interests

my kids, photography, art, creativity, using creative skills to help spread the message of peace and justice, changing the world one little corner at a time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy movies that make the audience think - Mindwalk, Clockwork Orange, What The (Bleep) Do We Know?, Life of Brian, Tears of the Sun, The War of The Worlds (not the one with tom whats his face), Trembling Before G-D, When Turtles Fly, From The Streets Of Baghdad (Sen Aboresk) Class President (i was an extra!)
Television - Well I don't have cable - and we have been know to go without TV for up to 4 years at a time... I don't really like corporate media - and as far as tv shows go i find the only thing interesting is the csi type of stuff. i think we are falling to far away from the time when one would help a neighbor in need and shows like survivor and brother and elimidate are just so much trash in that they encourage the 'get for me and only me' attitude that is helping to destroy america. republicans should go after them and leave gay marriage alone. Music - a bit of everything except the stuff that sends a message of exploitive ownership (take ur pants off and crawl across the floor to me cause ur my b***ch) or drugs/violence with irresponsible behavior - my favorite is when someone brings their instrument to my fire pit and plays all night... books - if it makes you think it's good. Throw in a bit for enjoyment and you're set! I have kids - so i read what they read. I have been reading a lot of 'god stuff' the last 4-5 years for my efm class (education for ministry) and now am reading 365 - a book of thoughts and meditations by the Dalai Lama. read the patriot act - i've read some of it - it's scary!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

raised my children the best i could. am looking forward to seeing my grandchildren grow!

Money saving tip #1:
If you are female and find yourself in need of a bra and can't find/afford one you can take mens briefs (like fruit of the loom tity-whities) in a size that will fit you ($6-$8 american for a five pack) and cut out the crotch - the 'butt' side goes in front and you can do a 'v' or a 'u' shaped neckline. makes a cool halter top and a great conversation starter!

Money saving tip #2:
If you are a barefooted person, or if you have lost your shoes and need to go somewhere shoes are required (note - as long as it's not for safety reasons) you can take a piece of string, twine, yarn, thin strap of leather, etc. and make a pair of 'sandals'. tie a loop in the middle of the string that will fit around your second toe - plus a bit so you can place the knot in between your toes and the front of your ankle. place your second toe into this loop and take the two loose ends and tie them behind your ankle. for some style, you can add a bead to the knot, smaller beads to the sides, or wrap the ends around your ankle and the tie for a 'ballerina' look. remember - these do not have a sole so be careful where you walk, but they will be good enough to go dancing, shopping or to the library...

Money saving tip #3:
If you are in need of a skirt to go dancing with but don't have one handy you can make one out of a oversized t-shirt and a pair of scissors! Just take the t and lay it flat. cut across starting under one arm and slanted slightly to end up midway up the other arm. then cut the side seem out of the side that still has a bit of arm left - cutting the arm flap in half as well. stand up and wrap the skirt around you using the arm flaps to tie in place! you can shorten it as well as cut fringe at the bottom to dress it up a bit. (this works really well with old rock and roll t's)

Money saving tip #4
You can also make a no sew tank to go with your recycled skirt! take a t that fits you and cut it off right below the arms. then cut a 1 inch strip from the bottom of the t. cut the strip so you have two straps of the same length. now poke two holes in the front of the shirt about one inch down from the top 1/4 of the way in from both sides and then do the same to the back. slip one of the ends of one strap into the left front hole and knot then the other end into the left back hole and knot. do the same to the right side. you now have a recycled tank top to match your skirt! (you can get creative with the placement of the straps - cross them over in the back, only do one hole in the middle of the front for a 'v-neck look' using only one longer strap, etc.)
