About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Every single moments of practicing meditation

ABOUT ME

Are you surprised to meet a Korean Buddhist Monk here? Never expected?Yes, I think I could be a first Korean Buddhist monk became a member in CS. As you see the main picture, I'm a buddhist monk at Haeinsa. Haeinsa is one of biggest temple in Korea. Haeinsa would be primary Buddhism temple introduced in any kind of Guide book about Korea. After became monk, I've been practicing Zen meditation for about 8 years. At this moment, I'm living with my father, supreme patriarch of Chogye order of Korean Buddhism. He is a venerated Great Zen Master in Korea, and I am staying with him as a secretary. Around the end of April 2012, I probably leave Haeinsa and get back to Sudoam. Sudoam is a small temple, located at an altitude of 1000 meters of Mt. Sudo. There is a good Zen Meditation house in Sudoam. I prefer to practice and stay in Sudoam while I am not in the meditation period. According to Buddhism tradition, there are two meditation retreat peroid in one year. These are summer meditation retreat and winter meditation retreat. Each retreat period lasts 3 months.
In most case, I go on a retreat every time. During the retreat period, it will be hard to contact me. Monks in retreat period are not allowed to go out until it ends.
I hope you contact me on spring or fall season, so that I can meet you and have time with you.

PHILOSOPHY

Always be honest with my mind.
On a moment of my death, someday, I 'll be sitting in meditation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm on my way of travelling all around the world at this moment.

My World Travel began in September 2012 from china, and ends up in NY, US. I expect my travel will take almost close to 25 months.

Main motive I set up the travelling is to meet buddhist people all around world, and make benefical conversation about life, truth, meditation and so on.

By this world travel, I also expect to get diverse experience, not only positive and valuable experience but also negative and bad experience. While I am experiencing such divers situation, I am cheking my mind condition.

In Buddhism practicing, we were taught not discriminate between right and wrong, good and bad, favor and unfavor. Even if we encounter a number of difficulties of negative and unwilling situationo people, they were regarded as a good chance to test our practice and mind.

Primary purpose of this travelling is not to do with comfortable rest and delicious food. What I want in World Travel is to put myself in diverse situation, and observe how my mind works and moves.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sitting in the middle of universe, surrounded by numerous stars, I could hear people's unsounded crying all over the universe.
They confessed that they were suffering deeply in mind, while pretended to be happy outwardly.
I thought I could understand why people were self-contadictory between real mind and superficial behaviors through this experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Being a monk, I think I could explain (Korean) Buddhism more directly in detail. I can teach you method of meditation as beginning level, if you are no experienced.Interested in Buddhism and experience of staying at Buddhism temple?Come to Sudoam.
