***Here are some sugestions in case you choose to visit our city, our region:
If you come in Baia Mare you could visit The Mineralogy Museum (in Romanian it's*Muzeul de Mineralogie*) wich has 1000 exhibits of rock, minerals and fosils. Mineralogy Museum in Baia Mare is the largest regional museum in Europe, many of the exhibits are considered unique and world heritage values. This link will show you pictures from the museum: https://www.google.ro/search?q=muzeul+de+mineralogie+wikipedia&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=ro&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=X4nkUar2KI3UsgbZgYHoAg&biw=917&bih=462&sei=iIrkUcGvJIrFswaEjoH4BA#um=1&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&hl=ro&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=muzeul+de+mineralogie+baia+mare&oq=muzeul+de+mineralogie+&gs_l=img.3.0.0l2j0i24l8.3928.5244.0.6860.9.9.0.0.0.0.112.803.7j2.9.0....0...1c.1.19.img.eSFh5iIMgHQ&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.48705608,d.Yms&fp=b6101edc056d6e24&biw=917&bih=462. The museum is close only on Monday. It'™s schedule is 9:00-17:00.
If you want to see how people live in the past we invite you to visit The Village Museum(in Romanian*Muzeul Satului*).It is near the park, near old center of the town. This museum it's unique in Europe. This is the link if you want to see pictures from the museum: https://www.google.ro/search?q=muzeul+satului+baia+mare&client=firefox-a&hl=ro&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ho7kUYyuJYTi4QTQ04DQAg&ved=0CDsQsAQ&biw=1173&bih=590. If you realy want to know more about our culture you most go outside the city. You most visit Merry Cemetery wich is at 70 Km from the city in a village called Sapanta(in Romanian*Cimitirul vesel din Sapanta *). People culture from here is similar with the dacians(gauls) wich consider death as a noble moment a moment of joy, they are not afraid of death. Here it is the link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merry_Cemetery. It is full of funny epitaphs. We recomand you to find a young person(young people usually study English at school) to translate you those epitaphs. They are very interesting and funny. Sapanta it's near Sighetul Marmatiei. You can take a bus from Baia Mare to Sighetul Marmatiei. There are busses that goes to Sighet every hour and from Sighetul Marmatiei you can also take a bus.
Our region is famous by the wooden churches and wooden gates. You must also visit Barsana Monastery. It's a heavenly place. Here it's the link: https://www.google.ro/search?q=barsana+monastery&client=firefox-a&hs=Lmu&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=BJbkUe-pEo3PsgbmsIGABg&ved=0CDEQsAQ&biw=1173&bih=590. It is situated at 15 Km from Sighetul Marmatiei.
This is one of our wooden gates: https://www.google.ro/search?q=barsana+monastery&client=firefox-a&hs=Lmu&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=BJbkUe-pEo3PsgbmsIGABg&ved=0CDEQsAQ&biw=1173&bih=590#client=firefox-a&hs=oRF&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=porti+maramuresene%5C&oq=porti+maramuresene%5C&gs_l=img.3..0j0i24l4.160785.171152.0.172533.31.17.6.8.8.0.103.1516.13j4.17.0....0...1c.1.19.img.xcKfUFf2YfI&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.48705608,d.Yms&fp=9c9fed088049f61e&biw=1173&bih=590&facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=2yuEaXB8jJ6ioM%3A%3BJaihj5I6UL5HoM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252F4.bp.blogspot.com%252F_RutRl3ACgj0%252FTPFcGQrdUkI%252FAAAAAAAAFjM%252FowdN9t96400%252Fs640%252FIMG_1065.JPG%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fromaniamegalitica.blogspot.com%252F2010%252F11%252Fpoarta-maramureseana-biblia-locurilor.html%3B1600%3B1200. The symbols that are sculptured have the role to protect the family. The twisted rope symbolizes life and death, the conection between the sky and the earth, between people and God. Every gate has a sun wich symbolize life. People always use oak wood to make the gates. The wood must have been cutted before a night with a full moon so that it could protect the people from bad things. The wood must be taken home in a working day so that it would bring people luck. Passing trough the gate it symbolize the transformation. When people came home they let outside all their worries and by passing thought the gate they purify themselves so that they could have a happy family.
