Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Explore the world and its peoples to expand and deepen my person and seek out common ground for constructive human connections.
ABOUT ME
Life is short, but it's very broad and deep, and we live in it in a huge world that just begs for us to explore and to continue to become more than we are. In the interests of true living, it has always been my mission to live a life that is rather unconventional and yet productive, satisfying, and ethical. In the 80s I worked abroad as a diplomatic interpreter until I returned to my stateside life in social psychology. In June 2008 I resigned from my long-term position in social psychology to return to a life of international travel. Working my way around the world, I have visited or lived in nearly 30 countries and accumulated a wealth of valuable experiences. A rather quiet person, I enjoy nature through camping, hiking, animals, plants, ect, as well as reading, writing, good conversation, ice hockey, travel, cultures, psychology, sociology, foreign languages, teaching, cooking, and meeting new people. Where shall I go next? What wonderful new people will I get to know? What can I learn from them? What can I share with them? How can we all benefit and find ways to be happy and grateful? Perhaps some of you will be the ones helping me to answer and perpetuate these kinds of questions. Until then, I wish you interesting trails and guests!
PHILOSOPHY
I live to experience, to learn, to grow. I am an atheist, and often that is a misunderstood and negatively judged element of my being. I try to live decently and responsibly and to hold myself accountable to others and to the truth of reality. I consider myself neither a pessimist nor an optimist, but rather a realist. I value highly objective, critical thinking as well as heart of basic friendly good will.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Update September 2025: I am finally back home in the USA in my hometown, Portland Oregon. My hosting situation is temporary, but I do wish to meet travelers and learn of your experiences.
A few years ago, I reoriented my life to be a continuous traveler for a while. Thus I have been a guest a few times and I have not returned to my life at home. As I travel, I do make it my mission to spread the idea of couchsurfing and other alt travel resources and ideas. I am very excited at the prospect of hosting when I finally do return home or to a home away from home where I can host guests. In the past, I have also donated to the couchsurfing project.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Prior to the couchsurfing project, I have had travelers as guests in my home over the years as well as been a guest myself in the homes of foreign pen-pals and other travel contacts. Thus far my couchsurfing hosts have been amazing!
Interests
Psychology, sociology, philosophy, linguistics, history, photography, travel, hockey, skydiving, kyaking, hiking, camping/backpacking, bicycling, nature, reading, writing, ethics, intelligent substantial discussion, learning, being, becoming, YOU, ect, ect, ect. Foreign languages are a huge interest of mine, but my language skills have become rusty due to lack of use here in the USA. Thus it seems fair to label myself as a beginner in some languages until I regain my skills along my travels.

Music, Movies, and Books
I LOVE to read! Predominantly nonfiction and specifically in the social sciences. You can check out my home library (http://www.librarything.com/profile.php?view=MorganKeller). I do enjoy movies that make me think. Independent films, foreign films, and documentaries often offer me far more satisfying choice than mainstream Hollywood productions. I prefer films with significant, intelligent dialogue, complex character development, and those pertaining to serious human issues particularly in regards to the social sciences. I also enjoy period pieces to include faithful renditions of takes on classical literature, historical dramas, pseudo-historical dramas, et. My musical tastes run from classical to classic rock to metal and blues and whatnot, but I am not well versed in music.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
How about 3? One: The fall of the Berlin Wall and an alteration of world affairs while I lived in Germany on a diplomatic mission. Danced on the Berlin Wall, New Year's Eve 1989...the biggest New Years Party in the world. That being said, while the sheer force of the revolutionary change was amazing, it was clear that it wasn't going to be a smooth, happy transition. Two: An incredible crazy ride clinging to the side of a helicopter! three: Resigned from my good job, sold off most of my things, and became a continuous traveler? Life can be AWESOME!
Teach, Learn, Share
Everyone and everything has something to teach us, some gift for us if we just open our mind. I want to see the world, humanity, reality far more broadly and deeply than I do. It is a life mission of mine that will never be completed, but will always be in a state of progress. As for you and I, the natural flow will determine what we each learn and teach.
