ABOUT ME

I am a friendly Midwesterner (from Cincinnati, Ohio USA) who finds writing about themselves very awkward. I like to think I have a good sense of humor and I like to go with the flow. I am spending a semester abroad in Prague, and want to make my months in Europe count by traveling as much as possible. I think sharing a meal is the best way to get to know people. I'm happiest in a record store. I'm scared of the ocean but I love to look at it.

PHILOSOPHY

Talking about philosophy makes me dizzy, but I think the golden rule is a pretty good guide in life.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have yet to use CouchSurfing, but I am looking forward to meeting interesting people while having authentic experiences wherever I travel. I am also looking forward to returning the favor and hosting other travelers when I am back in Ohio!

Interests

I am studying English and American Studies (minoring in Disability Studies), but I am also very interested in photography. William Eggleston is one of my favorites. I love all types of music and want to talk to you about what music you love. I enjoy reading, especially writers from the American South like Walker Percy, Larry Brown, and Flannery O'Connor. My appreciation for animals has increased since I have been separated from my cat and dog during this semester!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Italo Calvino, Walker Percy, Larry Brown, Flannery O'Connor, John Kennedy Toole, John Irving, Carson McCullers, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Ben Lerner, John Dos Passos, etc., etc., etc. Who is YOUR favorite author?

Music: Anything from what my parents were listening to as hip 20-somethings in the late 1970s/early '80s to Lil Wayne to the blues to Chet Baker.

Movies: I am always behind when it comes to movies, but I've never disliked a Cohen brothers movie and Will Ferrell is hilarious.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I attempted a 35-mile nighttime pilgrimage hike through a very muddy, rainy, and demanding (terrain-wise) forest in the Czech Republic. Got lost 10 miles in, and wandered for 5 more miles before (amazingly) finding a taxi in a tiny village. It was not a pleasant experience, but I definitely felt alive!
