About Me

Think travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you; it should change you
You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

I'm no African Prince

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

6000 km from the Cape to the Pearl of Africa

A few weeks ago, I embarked on a 6000 km trip from Cape Town, South Africa to Kampala, Uganda. The trip was meant to be done in just 2 weeks, covering six countries by bus, with only $500. Due to ATM complications in Lusaka, I ended up using an extra $250, but kept my trip to 2 weeks. The reason I chose a low budget and to travel by bus was to show Africans that you don’t need a lot of money to travel, you don’t need the hustle of getting visas. Africa is beautiful and can be cheap. We must travel in order to open our minds

I traveled for two types of people. First, I traveled for the African traveler who would like to see more of our continent. For those who would like to venture to the coasts of Namibia and see the German city of Swakumound; visit with the Himba and Maasai tribes; experience the Victoria Falls in Livingstone; walk on the shores of Lake Malawi, or take a boat to Zanzibar; check out Moshi and see the majestic Kilimanjaro; be immersed in the city of hustlers that is Nairobi; and be inspired by the green plains of Uganda.

The other people I traveled for are the African entrepreneurs. Those who would like to learn how plastic recycling is being used as building material in South Africa. Those who are curious where Namibians and Motswanas get their produce, since most of their land is not conducive for farming and the populations are low. I traveled for the African entrepreneurs who want to understand why Zambians and Zimbabweans are so smart, yet rely on Western ideologies to solve problems instead of looking at solutions that have worked in East Africa. I traveled via bus because at Southern Ambition Africa, it our goal to encourage young Africans to explore and expand their mindsets--and sometimes broadening your mindset only takes some time and a good bus route.

Our company has attracted many Europeans, Latin Americans and Northern Americans who come to southern Africa and learn our traditions, food, music, politics, our people, and take it back home with them. Because of these experiences, they set-up new opportunities for themselves and others. They fall in love on our continent. And yet when we go to their countries, we are often perceived as refugees. So let’s start a movement where we can go learn from them and return to enhance our own continent, drawing from the richness of resources and people that already exists in our homelands, but has yet to be tapped into.

United we stand and together we fall shouldn’t just be when we need something from one another--we should live every day with this mindset.
