to see the world and do my best to live in it, meeting some wonderful people along the way.
I first set foot in Senegal in the middle of 2005 and I have pretty much been living in Africa, East and West, ever since. I clearly love to travel and I've got two great sisters who the wanderlust is rubbing off on - just look at my list-o-friends, they're there. I love learning about other cultures though my heart is obviously attached to a particular continent at the moment.
I'm also interested in green business and business development and that is what I'm currently working on setting up a regional branch of a micro-solar lighting company that I've been working with since 2008.
I have lived in 5 countries and traveled to 6 continents.
I am now living in Kampala, Uganda with my husband, Charles. I've lived here previously but he is new to East Africa.
We get a lot of couch requests so we will not be accepting generic couch requests. Use my (real) name, use my husband's real name and tell us why you'd like to meet us, not just why you want a free place to crash.
"I remember that time that you told me, you said love is touching souls surely you touched mine cause part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time."
"With every lesson learned, a line upon your beautiful face."
I stole these from the Joni Mitchell song "A Case of You" and Indigo Girls "Get Out the Map" Putting them together I come away with: Take what you can, learn, really learn from every experience, good or bad and especially let yourself learn and grow from those people who touch your life. After all we really are little more than the accumulation of our experiences, relationships and how we choose to react to them.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been a member since late 2007 when I took a fabulous trip with my great friend Allison. We both couldn't get enough and we're still couchsurfing to this day.
From my first experience with CS I have preferred it to staying in hotels while traveling, and I really get disappointed (and super bored) if I have to stay in a hotel. I have met some close and life-long friends through CS so I can say that it really has changed my life.
I have surfed in:
I have hosted in:
The United States
Nigeria (Hopefully soon!)
Very strange that I haven't surfed in my own country yet... will have to fix that!
visited 46 states (20.4%)Create your own visited map of The World or another interesting project
I'm the kind of person that will go in phases. These days I have gotten back into Ultimate Frisbee and I love hashing (as in Hash House Harriers). I recently joined a book club for the first time and one of my favorite things to do is get together with friends for a nice long, conversation-packed meal.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I love anything I can't predict the ending 5 minutes in, twists and turns.
Music: Singer-songwriter, blues, bluegrass, lingala, highlife, show tunes, I could go on and on.
Books: The Poisonwood Bible, Stiff and Guns, Germs and Steel are a few that I've recommended to many people. I also love Sedaris, especially the parts that make me laugh until I cry.
