ABOUT ME

My name is Amanda MacCaskell. I am passionate about my husband, my family, my friends and my work. I tend to be a literalist -- but a contradictory one at that. I love to be serious, and have fun, have structure only to crave spontenaity, have tremendous amounts of energy and drive followed by moments of calm. But, onto the good stuff. I want to travel -- lots of it. More more more more -- because learning about the world and contributing to it, in my opinion, is the only way to make this world better.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that all humans need to have faith in something, a purpose in life, a passion for something that drives us all. And the answers to those questions are, for everyone, different. And that is the beauty of being a human being.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never couch surfed before, in a "formal" sense. But, just meeting people or e-mailing people from the other side of the world is way too fun! We need a little more human connection in this crazy world.

Interests

I love to hike, bike, rollerblade, cross-country ski and COOK. Cooking and baking are pastimes -- I will gladly host a dinner party for no reason at all, other than seeing people happy eating food, drinking a plethora of wines and having a blast. My husband is the love of my life and we share all these interests, to varying degrees (he really loves the eating and baking part :) :) )

Music, Movies, and Books

Jazz, Club Mixes, and NO COUNTRY MUSIC WHATSOEVER. My favorite kinds of movies? Hmmmmm... Mrs. Doubtfire was a favorie, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, anything by Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine etc), Training Day... I can stand the chick flicks but I love action films too. I love reading in general, but any travel books and any kind of JRR Tolkien book will keep me reading for hours on end. I read an outstanding book "The Christmas Box" over Christmas (the complete Trilogy) and it was one of the most moving books I've ever read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to South Korea, and all the travels from there. The sights, sounds and smells still linger in my mind, but above all the precious friendships I formed there will stay with me always. I still miss my friends there. Seoul never sleeps, never stops, never misses a beat. The Koreans are some of the most generous and kind people I've ever met.
