cure cancer, end world poverty, stop war. But if I can't do that, then I'll settle for travelling and meeting people.

ABOUT ME

Sort of generic with just a bit of intellectual curiosity to question assumptions and conventional wisdom. I love discussing issues and getting other points of view, even if I don't agree. I like playing devil's advocate, so you never know.

PHILOSOPHY

i am a very laid back person. I like variety and think that getting stuck in a rut (which can easily happen) is a bad thing. I am not interested in walling myself off from the world, or only being around people that are like me or agree with me. I like to challenge assumptions and hear and try to understand other people's point of view.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

at this point i have hosted surfers in washington, dc and am now looking to surf as i travel around europe this summer (2013). I haven't been having too much luck with that :( Always the brides maid and never the bride.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

hosting and now hopefully surfing. I have also done it the old fashinoned way, ie through friends or friends of friends, or even people I recently met. One interesting couch surfing experience was being invited to stay at a person's home in Syria (no actual couch) and having explained to me about the evils of alcohol in america, then being offered whiskey which i pointed out was alchohol, and then having it explained to me how whiskey was not alchohol and was a good thing. At the time I really couldn't disagree!

Music, Movies, and Books

pulp fiction and the matrix are probably my favorite movies. I also laughed hysterically at little miss sunshine.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

climbed devils tower, wyoming, ran marathons when i was younger/in shape/ without back problems, hiked the inca trail and visited machu piccu, the pyramids.

But even the most simple basic thing is really amazing when one takes the time to ponder all the complexity and beauty around us all the time

Teach, Learn, Share

There is something to learn from everyone, even if it is how not to be/think/act. I like to joke that i am never wrong (at least for long), because i can admit to being wrong and then change my opinion/action/whatever.
