About Me

Working back in Belgium

Hi CS friends, we're a couple. My GF her name's Riet and I'm Jan. I would describe myself being kind, open, social, playful, adventurous, curious, excited, good hearted, straightforward, good listener, loving, spiritual, perfectionist, sportive (mainly swimming but I also run or MTB sometimes), nature lover. I love to feel 'free', especially travelling provides me of this great feeling :) I don't like having the feeling being stuck in a situation, being forced to do something or forced sticking to a group. In general I enjoy a cosy 1 on 1 conversation above a crowdy and noisy situationHowever, sometimes I do love going out, socializing and dancing. In general I'm not shy at all^^ I love nature, languagues, music, dancing, travelling, photography while travelling, meeting new peopleI'™m open for anything and try judging as less as possible. I looove to eat (You'll find me eating virtually the entire day ;), I also love to sing (mostly when I'm alone ;) :p ), learning about other cultures/religions/countries, big coffee lover, love watching movies, don't read much (only books about countries I'll go visiting), I love thrills/kicks (last one was a 1minute free fall skydiving jump in Australia) and most of all I love to meet new people, make friends from all over the world and keep in touch. Oh yeah, and I've got a thing for big sea turtles and owls, so that explains my nickname 'Mr_Owly_Turtle';) In general life I'm working as a family doctor. When I work I work hard, also my working schedule shifts the whole time so it's unfortunately very difficult for me starting to follow courses for an example (recently I did start taking 'styledancing' classes, which I enjoy a lot^^. I feel gratefull for having the opportunity to make friends all over the world by travelling. Friends and family are are important for me I'm a bit of a 'spiritual' person, no floaty stuff, I just try enjoying life, working a bit on myself in the mean while and trying to do my share in making this planet a bit of a better place. Most important for me it is that a person tries to enjoy life as much as possbile. Having a kind of goal I also find important in life. Having a religion is not a must for me (in other people), as long as you try to be a good person and do something useful and positive for this world. Respecting others is very important for me, as well as having an open mind.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I'm a great CS fan. Being a CS for me is loving to meet new people, having an open mind towards strangers, having faith in what life brings you, opening yourself and your home to 'strangers'. It's a way of thinking and life and definitely makes this world a better place^^ Also it helps me indulging myself in the country that I vist, plus of course it's just a LOT of fun! Some CS that I've met over the past few years I consider as close friends who know me very well and care for me. Travelling not as a CS is just not the same^^ We're all just people, looking and behaving a bit differently yes maybe, but still 'just people' happening to live n a different spot on this tiny planet. I host, I surf, I sometimes travel together with another CS (also people I don't know before), if I have the opportunity I attend CS meetings or activitis. I find it a pitty that I don't often get the opportunity hosting people, as most tourists are only interested in visiting the touristic Belgian sites, such as Brussels and Bruges. So when I do host, it are mainly CS that I've met before on one of my travels.

I've met all kinds of people through CS, from plain normal to virtually insane :p

Music, Movies & Books

I Love music and I'm open for a lot of different styles, as long as it has a nice rhytm. I prefer pop or R&B kind of music in general above very alternative music. Also very monotonous music like techno or so I prefer not to listen to^^

Most of the time though you'll find me listening to spanish music and more in particular to Baladas (Carlos Varela, Carlos Baute, Romeo Santos, Juan Luis Guerra,...), Reggaeton/Cubaton (Osmani Garcia, Tony Dize, Nengo flow, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Farruko,...) /Bachata (Angeles de la Bachata, Aventura, Grupo extra, Prince Royce,...) I love the sound of the spanish language and the South-American warmness that the people carry. A menudo siento que tengo el corazon latino en este cuerpo europeo ;) Pop shit like: Will.I.Am, Taio Cruz, Alicia Keys, Pitbull, Flo-rida, Rihanna, Bruno Mars,... My (music) Youtube account = s0162803 I also love dancing. I would love to follow a lot of dancing courses, especially latin kind of dances (next course that I'll be following will be salsa for sure^^). At the moment I'm following a beginners course of 'styledancing'^^

I LOVE watching movies (which I also do a lot!): comedies, 'fantastic movies', action movies, romantic movies, family movies,...
