About Me

CURRENT MISSION

tell stories, live well.

ABOUT ME

I'm a filmmaker and wrestler. I make personal / poetic / experimental / ethnographic / films that have shown all around Europe and up and down the Americas.

I teach at a small college in Ohio, USA, where I'm also busy raising a daughter.

I love cooking and eating, playing sports and reading good books, traveling without a guidebook or itinerary, and meandering conversations.

Interests

ashtanga yoga, brazilian jiu-jitsu, riding my bicycle, making movies, cooking and eating... and raising my daughter.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For my most recent film I wrestled in Mexico City and Chiapas as El Gato Tuerto (the One-Eyed Cat) with a camera built into my wrestling mask.

About a decade ago I got sunburned while swimming around a sunken battleship from the Spanish-American war in a bay outside of Santiago de Cuba, then ate fresh fish with a veteran of the Cuban revolution and his wife, and visited with their neighbor: a veteran of (the Cuban support for) the Angolan Civil War, who was later the Pope's personal protector when he visited Cuba to thank the country for their role in Angolan Independence.

And I just got back from Oaxaca where I spent Día de Los Muertos, which was beautiful, touching, and inspiring: made me think a lot about how I want to live in relation to family and community - the people in my presence, and those who no longer are but have touched me in big ways.

Teach, Learn, Share

i know a lot about: documentary & experimental film, photography, ethnography, history, ashtanga yoga, and wrestling. i also like to cook - i have recipes but am especially gifted at kitchen improvisation.
